onedeepstrange vibe shift in 2018 where trap producers stopped using snares altogether (pierre bourne influence?) and drums never recovered. rage beats brought snares back eventually but they lost the knowledge for making snares that hit like they did in the 80s-00s

Yeah a lot of producers seemed to replace hard hitting snares with like, rims/claps that don’t hit hard at all. Less emphasis on kicks too
The heavy bass (and weak snares/kicks) can sound good with good speakers but sounds weak in headphones imo

I remember listening to Magnolia in 2017 (great song overall) and feeling like drums just didn’t knock the way they’re supposed to imo

Tbh I feel like if anything trap beats akin to the norm in 2015 is still surprisingly dominant
Really thought between the 2020-style drill sound was gonna be the new dominant wave, who knows maybe if Pop Smoke had lived it would've been different.
