i wouldn't say its out there.(not saying it isn't good)

its just a revamp of 2010s Cloud rap + jerk s***.

the only thing thats "weird" is maybe easter pink but thats got some witch house elements (and didn't he only co produce it?)

I mean the form of cloud rap revivalism he does is completely unique to himself though and is dif from everything else out rn. Plus, even when he does do jerk or whatever he does it radically different a lot of the time
    See:

^ this is completely novel lol

This uses rage synths and oddly normal drums i

Not his beat but really electronic unique beat I can’t think of many others approaching stuff like this

Good example of one the weird jerk beats he hops on

Odd drums and well used burial sample

Just because it can get a subgenre label doesn’t mean it’s not unique tho

He does have a good ear/ has dug hard into the cloud/jerk space but a lot of these choices also "stand" out more do to how his mixed his voice.

Uh I mean everything I said is about the beats exclusive from his voice lol
I mean his voice being unique does help make an overall unique song also sure

I think it was implied I wasn’t talking about live drums where you can play and fluctuate the velocity of hats

You can do that on software too

yep trap drums have been played out since 2018 and sonically getting worse and worse like a jpeg saved over and over again
producers use a sample of a sample of a sample of a real 808 drum machine and wonder why it doesnt hit like mannie fresh or dj paul

strange vibe shift in 2018 where trap producers stopped using snares altogether (pierre bourne influence?) and drums never recovered. rage beats brought snares back eventually but they lost the knowledge for making snares that hit like they did in the 80s-00s

Pi’erre changed how beats were structured for a good 4 years no exaggeration

I don’t think they’re open they’re just not as tight as trap ones

You can’t get mad at the technique

What needs to be up for debate is how artists use the technique

We should be advocating for expression instead of convenience. Intention over mass production.

    Lazy producers poison the well.

I said that in my original post tho. There are other sounds you can use for percussion instead lmao
