You financial incentive is right there... fantasy football lol but let's say youre not playing for money, you can still use those advanced stats to make a claim he is the best rb in the league (which he is ) you can't do that based off sales

Too many people on here can't detach sales discussion from people using it to claim an artist is the best. And to be fair too many people on here try to do exactly that.

Let me be clear...I don't give a s*** about what sales have to say about something's artistic merit or perceived quality. Because the two are not correlated at f***ing all. All the numbers can tell you is how the general public receives and consumes the music. And, you may find it hard to believe, but that in itself is genuinely interesting to a lot of people. If it wasn't then HDD wouldn't exist. Billboard wouldn't exist. And if more people could stop projecting onto the numbers and look at them unbiasedly then they may find it interesting as well.

It's probably why there's entire fantasy leagues for box office results but not for record sales. Because people in general are not nearly as emotionally attached to actors and directors in the same way they are to music artists. They can look at the numbers as just interesting numbers and use them to play a dumb game.

And if anyone thinks box office fantasy leagues are absurd they even got Matthew Berry a***yzing this s***. It's a legit game

I listen to music because i like the way it sounds plus im trying to hear the artists take on life and their experiences. That’s why we love music at the end of the day.

Nobody is talking about music w their people on some “yeah but he didn’t clear 80k in his 2nd week 🤓”

    This is absolutely not true

What's my financial incentive to track statistics like an NFL front office. I just use it to d***ride Jonathan Taylor to everyone in my fantasy league

    Bro are you dumb

People bet money on sports not on who sells the most records

Keep Kendrick out the sales thread cuz he cant compete with the top dawgs

Honestly the existence of this, plus the amount of chart talk on here and Twitter prove the market exists for the same thing but for music. People in the sales thread need to come up with a game, create a platform, and turn the hobby into cash.

I don’t think many disagree with this. If you wanna a***yze numbers feel free. But basically everyone on here a***yzing numbers is doing it with “sales = quality” in mind. That part is extremely cringe. I wonder if some of these posters even listen to any of this music

People def play dumb with this take

No one is listening to music they don’t like lol. Sales and streams are just another point of information that is genuinely interesting to talk about.

People just get irrationally defensive when the numbers portray an artist they like in an unflattering light

    Bro stop

Nobody irl is talking about music in the way that yall do on here with the charts and s***. Yall keep trying to relay it to sports and movies and s*** when we all know its not the same. I see some of yall on here talking about sales and billboard more than the actual music

Drake stans don’t understand that casuals don’t care about numbers. They’re obviously not outside as often as they pretend to be.

We all agree there is a place for it (place for furries to f*** too) but how you guys use sales in that thread is not objective at all. No one would s*** on sales if the users weren't using it to draw conclusions that you can't draw from sales or to outright mock an album.

Displaying data isn't weird, bjt displaying data and using it as a crutch for an underlying motive is and that's what that thread is.

I mean thats the point of forums no? bring together like minded individuals to discuss niche interests.

There’s plenty of items I discuss online more than I would in casual conversaton lol.

Again, this is only controversial because it’s used as a cudgel against an artist that people happen to like

Like if we're being real about this s*** its all for bragging rights on a forum. U go to twitter you see the pop girls using the sales as a one up on the stans of the artists they dislike. Thats really all ktt is lol.

But its like congratulations you made discussing art as fun as doing taxes
