What is this
Cheeseburger i made. Patty seasoned with garlic parmesan, bbq sauce mixed with homemade ranch, top with sauted peppers, mushrooms, and onions, and a slice of melted american cheeae
bouchon bakery
top left clockwise: pull apart monkey bread + plain croissant + vanilla scone + some typa cheese roll (ofc my sister and her husband picked the blandest s*** on their menu lol still good tho ngl)

surprisingly, the vanilla scone was my fav out of the four and i usually don’t really fw scones like that (could just be because ive already had the other 3 from diff bakeries way too many times tho)
plain croissant was really good too
Scone looks soo yum
gonna post random highlights that hav been on my mind
finally went to the im donut ? outpost in times sq the other day
i rly liked it
always wanted to try it but hadnt felt it was worth my time to stand in a line for it in tokyo
cant cross compare obvi but this one had absolutely no line/no wait at 6pm on a weekday, dare i say empty enough id be concerned itll close soon
i will also say im p sure its like triple the price comp jp

its supposedly made w kabocha squash in the dough but u cant rly taste it
overall i liked it a lot--probably my ideal donut
perfect amount of matcha cream inside, not too sweet or rich but had a nice density to it
donut itself had a rly nice chewy texture to it
im generally not a huge fan of donuts--i p much only like moroccan/chinese donuts (not even rly donuts), berliner donuts, and beignets. i will say their donut had a slightly oily aftertaste i didnt like, but i fl like its p common in donuts ig
idk if id get it again though 11 bucks is crazy amt of money for a donut
also tried has dac biet
we got a bunch of stuff, this oeufs mayonnaise/egg mayo was probs the best. overall liked the menu more than their popups ive been to. still find the pate chaud slightly underwhelming for the high price point. other dishes we got were decent but this one just has a crazy amount of flavor w the maggi n mayo

radio bakery was doing a hojicha tiramisu collab w a cookbook author for one weekend only
got there a little before 10am to get it--apparently theyd sold out by 10:30 the day before. good but wish it was more hojicha flavored--j tasted like scented cream. cookie on top was excellent wit tho

also i made blueberry pie
first time doing a lattice ever
i tried also decorating it w little bear cutouts :3
been making a lot of random lil quick recipes (sub 30 min)
instagram.com/p/DKfJf-KSkfl

pls made a rly good bolognese n nashville hot chicken last week
sori 2 post thrice but this will b my cdmx tacos post
tacos del valle -- fave tacos. deserved bib. mixed platter, all 3 meats from a trompo. red is pork belly w red rub, black is black rub pork, 1 w onion on top is carne asada. the black rub was rly special, the beef also p unique imo. i saw another spot that does beef trompo exclusively but idk u can get all three here all donee rly well. went at like midnight, 10 min wait but line looked longer in day time

el visito -- auto repair shop by day. uber driver was raving ab their tacos saying its the best al pastor in the city but i think tacos del valle was better in terms of flavor depth. el visito is way more traditional though and the vibe is better. next to tacos tony which the uber driver also insisted we go 2 as he felt they had the best saudero tacos but it was fairly mid imo. short wait for a spot to sit that we had 2 snipe~10 min
friend insisted we go here
taqueria las rejas--theyre apparently known for the al pastor n tacos de canasta. al pastor was good but not as good as the other 2 spots above. however, their agua frescas went crazy holy f. the agua frescas were so flipping good--the guayaba went nuts. apparently the alfalfa sprout one is life changing but i was scared to hav my life changed

tacos charly--this spot also has a bib. crazy long lines at 3:30pm i felt like i was at the friggin chinese roast meat spot or a jewish deli fighting for my life to get my order in. the suadero was so perf and juicy ugh. overall spent 30-40 of my life elbowing random tias n tios

taqueria orinoco -- got the chicharron gringa. excellent--love a flour tortilla and theirs was particularly good imo w a lot of flavor n perf texture.

expendio de maiz -- 1 star mich. we were basically eating in the dark lol
i think i anticipated a 3 hr wait --we put our names down around 4:30 and went back around 7:30, they called us telling us we were next as we were in the uber back over lol. overall p good, cool concept. i liked the amt of vegetables and stuff they featured. i wish the lighting was better we were basically just eating off a picnic talbe on a sidewalk lmao. the pulque was rly good (v gloopy, theirs). the best bite was the pork over bread. ider what the pork was, maybe adobada but it was v yummy. id still put tacos charly, tacos del valle above this tho in terms of straight tacos but i like the vision

el califa de leon (1 star)
i stood in line for like 2 hrs when they had a popup in ny and felt it was mid, but wanted to try it in cdmx to see if it was better
honestly no it was not. j dont think its my style-- a single piece of lean meat thrown on a flat top w a bit of salt n lime on a tortilla is overall kinda meh 2 me. beef wasnt super tender or marinated or anything nor did it hav a particularly good char
rl food in cdmx
molino el pujol
best concha we ate--topped w masa crust. sooooooo good so fluffy light airy, top was so crunchy.
exellent quesadilla, it was super yummy. savory tamal was fine but slightly dry (dr what flavor. sweet strawberry tamal was p unique and i liked it. felt breakfasty lol
the corn was my personal fave, so yummy and the corn is sim to chinese corn rather than american sweet corn. like the kernels were sorta chewy. chilaquiles was good (pref fonda margaritas though slightly)
mi compa chava
abt a 1 hr wait i think, we went n got 2 rounds of drinks at salon palomilla next door (we had a res to sit under their sunroof, did it via whatsapp a month ahead) and came back and they called our name like 10 min later. they dont message or call u u just have to be there. you can make a res thru whatsappbut not on weekends and thats when we wanted to to

shrimps w chipotle butter were rly good, tower was fire but huge, the tostada was on the most awful tortilla chip ive ever eaten but the tuna part was good. just a weird odd texture. highly recommend. michelada was yum too. there were other mariscos spots i wanted 2 hit 2 but o well.

la fonda margarita--bourdain rec. rlyyyyy yum. ~15 min wait for a seat at a communal table sunday at like 9am. lady next to me did not like me at all. excellent chilaquiles n bean/egg scramble. defs felt fried in lard lol. the bolillo had such a good texture too--super crisp outside super fluffy inside
masala y maiz--we got a res like a month in adv but switched to a new table w some last min cancellations for a better time slot, 1 mich star.

i fl like the food doesnt loooook super impressive here but this was our fave meal. everything was super well thought out/executed. indian american (s/o oakland) husband n mexican wife duo. pani puri w a puffed tortilla, papadam w tuna ceviche, grilled prawns w vanilla ghee and pickled radish (fave bite whole trip, the vanilla ghee is so special), pickle platter w alkalized papaya preserved in sugar syrup (idek how to explain how crazy that was). sooo good.
contramar (1 star)

we got these 3 things theyre known for plus some random apps. fried tuna balls were decent, tuna carnitas mid as hell, the fish w 2 sauces contramar style was honestly sort of disappointing--not as most/flavorful as id expect but not bad ig. tuna tostada was good, better than mi compa chava. fig tart was mid as hell i couldnt possibly say y ppl say to get it. the crust was mid and not buttery, figs werent super in season. the custard thing in the middle was also j ok. got a res via whatsapp, they dont take res via opentable dont bother trying :/ no seats actually drop. once they confirm u via whatsapp they make the opentable res for u
everything else in cdmx
panaderia rosetta:
guava pastry (soooooo yummy), puerquito/marranito (the pig gingerbread), concha w some sort of herb (cldnt taste it, was rly good though, just the top was more soft/slightly buttery/crumbly than i personally like), cinammon roll (passable but good), cafe de olla. theres 1 line for takeout and u can also stand in line 2 put ur name down for a table. we did both and once we got our pastry they called our table and just gave us plates for the pastries lol. also got some molds for a souvenir. gr8 cafe de olla 2
rando coffee chain w a view of the palacio de bellas artes
churreria el moro--p good but imnot the biggest churro head tbh. my fave is the1 in madrid w the dipping chocolate
tlecan w the pulque colada. soooo good. we got there around 9:30 w no line (standing room only) and managed 2 get a bar seat after 15 min or so. by the time w eleft around 11 it was packed
handshake --we got like 3 rounds here. i rly liked the mexithai but friends felt it was too pot pourri (v lime forward). cookies and cream was v interesting (tastes like the ice cream but it features no cookies as ingredients). no matcha cocktail that night. i think their bevs are v on the nose of what theyre supposed to taste like, sim to dcp. i think the sweet ones are too desserty--they all come w some sort of white chocolate shaped like a bread or cookie or something that i think pushes it over

san matcha w the homemade banana syrup?sauce? was rly yummy, rumor had a homemade guava syrup that was also rly good w their matcha
also went to cafe nin the sister cafe of rosetta and they had no more guava pastries :///
we got the flan instead and it was kinda mid--not bad not rich at all and too jello-y rather than creamy.
ok im done
we ate so much LOL we were only there for like 1 night 4 days lmfao
Was just over there and you guys ate way differently than I did but I wasn't in the touristy areas much and was walking 15+ miles a day most of the time so street food was usually the move
What were some of the other mariscos you wanted to hit??
I did try Rosetta and it was just alright to me but how I felt might have been colored by not rocking with the number of tourists there at the time I pulled up
Had a small pasta dish and a pastry at nin, both were cool but the pastry was great
Don't have many pictures but this is how I was moving for the most part

Yummm
Hmm one of them was los sirenos
Its inside a market somewhere
The other marisqueria el k guamo
Lowk i think i wlda liked Los sirenos more than mi compa chava for vibes (seems more like a nbhd spot which i like) and tbe sheer s***tiness of tje tostada chip at my compa chavq but idk
Ya i had almost a hundred spots saved throughout the city so it was lowk crazy narrowing it down LOL
Theres just so much good food 😵💫
There were a few street stalls we tried to hit bit they were always closed when we tried lmao 😭
Happened 3 times n gave tf up defs j bad luck but

recipes:
spring veg w tonnato sauce food52.com/recipes/85292-asparagus-fava-beans-tonnato-recipe
caramelized fr toast youtube.com/watch?v=xP5WmZg7OMg (made w challah instead)
extra creamy scrambled eggs instagram.com/reel/DUnbSHRkeU1
the fr toast was so friggin good, eggs defs felt very michelin amuse bouche ish as advertised
i also made a honeydew, cucumber, green pea juice based on a tiktok i saw but i cldnt find the video after seeing it the one time so i just yolo'ed it
id say like 1/3 of a honeydew to half a cucumber and half a handful of frozen peas. blitz in a blender until pretty homogenous then strain thru a cheesecloth. i did a double batch for 3 people and around a pint of liquid probs. the first time i did it i added 2 many peas, so defs go easy on the peas and add more if u want it to taste more pea like. the cucumber and honeydew are very forgiving though flavorwise
made myself mary o's irish soda bread scone dupes
thought they were mid but turns out i was being 2 impatient reheating them and they are EXCELLENt when steaming hot omggg
paired w homemade raspberry sauce

also made the culinary class wars hidden steamed egg
n viet pork chop
this is the best viet porkchop recipe ive tried
