Have no interest in any of these
Really? No those who wish me dead? Or a sopranos prequel? Or Judas and the black messiah?
The reason films continue to get bigger and bigger is because of previous film profits. If theatrical exhibition disappears, the budgets that movies have will drop significantly, similar to how television already has significantly smaller budgets than films.
This means that something like Avengers: Endgame with strong special effects literally won't be possible because no movie will be making billions of dollars. Without huge net profits, studios won't spend as much on them.
Even something like The Mandalorian or the MCU shows only have the budget it has because the show is essentially a commercial to keep people invested in the theatrical films.
Would you argue that it’s similar to the music industry? First week sells are nowhere near what they use to be and the cost to cut an album isn’t nearly as expensive. Now a days you can just produce and record an entire album in your bedroom
Theaters are about expenses, not just seeing it on a big screen.
Avengers Endgame literally CANNOT exist if you go straight to streaming. Where will the budgets come from? The studios will have to hike up their prices big time in order to maintain any level of profit for budgeting films.
Why on earth do you think so many studios were holding off on going straight to streaming? Why is Black Widow not on Disney+? Easy answer: It doesn't make the kind of money they need to be financially dependable.
That's why when people were saying"cAn tEnEt pLeaSe gO oN sTrEaMiNg" I was dumbfounded by poeple not understanding the economics of it. The movie was about $250 million on production alone so not including marketing so Warner to make like $500 mill to break even. I completely understand why they pushed it back and still put in theaters. They would've need an exorbitant amount of new subscribers to make some kind of profit.

It's similar except music has always been less expensive to make and more easily accessible. Daft Punk made an album from their basement in the 90's before streaming and it's still hailed as one of the best of all time.

For sure but I meant as far as what’s considered the “norm”, I know some artist here and there stepped out the normal realm to do things different.

You gotta remember too it gets to a point where you have to cut your loses. Would you rather keep pushing it back and possibly see no money? Or try and get what you can?
Wonder Woman is bigger than Black widow and they cut their loses because rn is unpredictable. We don’t know when or if movie theaters will ever go back to normal. So realistically some studios might be holding onto a film expecting an outcome that might not come
soooo will they be expanding HBO Max world wide?
They plan to eventually
The rest of the world will get the regular theatrical window
I've been seeing take everywhere. Why are people saying this? Is it because its lackluster domestic performance proved that studios should push it back or put it on streaming?
He wanted his movie released at all costs in an attempt to revive theaters but its domestic performance only led Warner Bros to the conclusion that they need simultaneous streaming releases in order to stop hemorrhaging money
As I said before, I'm someone who goes to the cinema a lot (I identify as a cinephile) but often, I'm fine with watching at home. Picture quality, sound quality etc. is often irrelevant to me unless the movie is being shown on film. I often forget where I saw a movie, and all I remember is the movie itself, which is what matters.
That's part of the reason why I'm so confused why people are so pissed at this
Also, support your local theater if you're really mad
My theater has had virtual screenings all year which I've paid for. Your nearest theater may have some too which will help them survive

You didn’t like Sicario or Hell or High water?
Also never met anyone who wasn’t a sopranos fan or wasn’t looking forward to a prequel. Interesting.

Haven't seen either
Haven't seen the show. I'm gonna start it in a few weeks. I'm betting I'll be interested in the movie after
As accessible as this is, some movies just don't hit the same on home theatres.
Anyone feel they'll revert back one day when we don't have to wear masks, etc?
There's literally no reason to not have a week/two week delay. It's a deliberate statement to the industry against theaters.

Nice I’m excited for you

I’m hoping, humans are social creatures by nature. The more we take away the need to leave the house the worse s*** will get. Truth of the matter is directors want their movies to get the full experience of individuals enjoying it amongst each other in a theater. I’m hoping they fight for everything to revert back. Especially with film festivals, those experiences are so fun. Virtual festivals just don’t hit the same.

That's true too. I think it was just back then they thought the pandemic was gonna last until August, but sadly that wasn't the case. So, I understand Warner for doing this now.
Totally unrelated to this thread but I just remembered when I worked at the theater, a customer asked me if we were showing the movie where Lebron James gets hit by a train
He was trying to describe Fruitvale Station

Or were they describing Train Wreck
Or were they describing Train Wreck
Nah I had stopped working at the theater in 2014. I ended up realizing he was talking about Fruitvale Station and he confirmed that’s what he was talking about
