Just to work with The Weeknd hair plugs got bro thinking he brand new

Selfishly I love that move for him because I really like The Weeknd but his pop music is pretty unserious and Mike Dean can make his albums really good

But Mike x ye the best combo ever

    Culprit

The bigger issue is the fact that he has nothing interesting to say and rap about anymore.

Also, he's regressed into this "burn everything down" 4chan dweeb

i kinda disagree, he's just an idiot and wants to rap about vapid LA lifestyle

my souls, river, and his writers can still cook up when they want to to deliver some more substantive lyrics.

I love DONDA but how does something like OFF THE GRID make it out the lab with all the vocals cut ins like that

Can we still consider that song classic with something like that

im prolly giving wayyyy too much leeway but idk. song slaps so why does it matter? again this is prolly super offensive to the creative and a perfectionist but.

    Yes
Do you remember when the most recent ye rap output was Jesus is king

Yes that was a sad state of being a Ye fan, and DONDA is amazing, I bump the CD in my truck all the time, but there’s always that splinter in the back of my mind when I hear all the cut-ins on that damn song

Like why couldn’t bro actually rap the verse

    Gotcha

overreaction / same old s*** imo

his drive for perfection is fleeting and comes and goes

GREAT albums from him will be few and far between here on out, but i still think he's capable.

Agreed. Not like Bowie or Bob Dylan dropped a classic every time people are f***in wierd man. Imagine writing all of that.

DONDA is proof he can make a classic.

Why can’t mans just make some fun tracks and put em out? Lol it’s very obvious these are tracks he likes but doesn’t necessarily love. He just wants to f*** around for a bit

Probably the realest thing I’ve ever read from r/GAS:

I remember a while ago on here someone was talking about how they disliked V1 and I read a comment at the time that basically said, with the degenerative mental illness + rest of the Kanye circus- we’re in a sort of mass sunken cost fallacy/diminishing returns situation where we’re never going to win more than we lose now. The idea that Kanye’s this mad volatile genius who lets things deteriorate to the point where his back’s against the wall and then he pulls out some beautiful undeniably great piece of art that shuts the critics up is an over-romanticised holdover from the dark fantasy era lol. I agree that things began to slide for all the reasons u states, but up until v1- even on albums I don’t like like Jik- I still thought there was some sort of intellectual vision for them- even if they were poorly executed. Some sort of conceptual grounding that felt interesting and worthwhile exploring that sort of tied the disparate ideas together to some degree. Jik obvs it’s Jesus and on Donda it’s that but made a lot more personal and executed infinitely better. But even musically he was trying a drum less ā€œminimalistā€ aesthetic that seemed intentional and he’d make interesting, weird, occasionally polarising exec prod decisions. But it still felt like he was at least directing these albums. V1/2 has none of that mystique whatsoever. They’re albums that basically function as playlists, and when the songs aren’t at all tethered to anything greater than the sum of their parts- their flaws are laid all the more bare.

Whilst I’m discussing this- I also just want to add something that I don’t see brought up enough. Kanye has become a pretty dreadful MC in terms of vocal delivery. This I think started post Pablo but has become steadily more prevalent on every album. On a lot of tracks (especially noticeable on something like keys to my life where it sounds like he’s actually struggling to stay on beat on what is an extremely conventional and quite slow time signatures) he has this ā€œit’s 4am in the studio and I’m rapping these words as I read them for the first time in one take and that engineer can splice it together for me and I can’t really be bothered to be hereā€ energy. Even on something like off the grid- yea the third verse is good, but Jesus Christ- it’s not some no more parties level because it’s obviously 80 different takes of him saying someone else’s words that are spliced together and thus no energy or momentum builds through his performance. It’s also an issue on take of your dress. And honestly most songs from vultures. He doesn’t write, he doesn’t produce and he doesn’t sound interested lol.

He is 100% washed and a bit of a joke figure in 2024 if u pop ur head outside this Kanye bubble long enough to breathe air. Look at how the like that verse was ridiculed from the moment it dropped lmao. 2016, even 2020 Kanye is getting the benefit of the doubt on that one but post Hitler and post everything else- people can see through the bs because they’re just beginning to not really give a f***.

Worth the read if you actually care about Ye

Ye has been washed since tlop
And obviously progressively getting worse every year

I accepted it a long time ago
I'm surprised alot of ppl are still in denial

I still enjoy the music even if it's not up to his old quality

But I'm not expecting Kanye West anymore

    I'm only expecting ye

And altho his rapping has declined to the ground the production is still there at least

The fact the fanbase has to do these long ass essays
    every album now
lets me know they have been massively coping

Enjoy the circus or stop complaining
    Like his old albums?
    Go back to em

I agree with letting the man f*** around, but there has been a linear disintegration of his craft over the last 10 years.

    There is no denying that.

    True but he’s 47
A decade ago he was drakes age

I have a hard time being that generous when he’s so obviously just tapped tf out rn, milking ā€œlistening experiencesā€, dropping songs w unfinished verses and ai, it’s just unprofessional. He doesn’t owe us or anyone professionalism, he can do what he wants but when he’s running around like this I am not going to chalk V2 up to ā€œit’s a fun album!ā€

I think the better discussion is what Ye Fans in 2024 find to be acceptable ye west musical output.

I like Donda ALOT. but i think we see it as a classic becuase the rollout more than the music. but thats fine and acceptable, and shows he CAN come close to classic, and even make classics in some fans minds,
