to be fair ye will b tthe first to scream out another rapper or artist wrote his songs lmaoo
This is also true, I guess maybe if Drake would adopt this philosophy everyone would be content?
This is true, but this also brings me to the Ye aspect of it. If you look at it that way, Drake and Ye are no different from each other.
I don’t know how many f***ing Fat Money references there are from the Donda/Donda 2 era?
I’m not even trying to be super pro Drake here but I’m trying to think back to the references that have leaked for Drake and I can’t think of one that was outright meant to be a song for someone else’s project since Take Care. The only thing you can apply that to is The Weeknd and Take Care. It’s common knowledge that a good chunk of Take Care was supposed to be on HoB/Thursday/EOS (Crew Love namely being that there are multiple references for that). The only other song I can recall Drake outright taking is Wednesday Night Interlude but even then he just left it as is and made it a PND interlude on his project.
I think part of it though is that Kanye even if he doesn’t write all his lyrics, still seems to be very involved in the overall vision and production of his albums. Nobody is out here really calling Ye one of the best rappers anyway.
Stans of Drake shout from the rooftops how this man is the greatest rapper ever but it’s hard to stand by that statement when Drakes contributions seem to be questioned. And it’s not like he’s really a producer either, although he has earned a credit here and there.

Please let's not overrate Abel's contributions to Take Care lmao.

1/5 is a decent chunk if you ask me
i was wondering the other day:
how long do you think drake hasn’t written his music?
were all those raps on so far gone given to him too?
how deep is the rabbit hole?

That’s 5 albums so far we have gotten references for.

I think Drake has written a sizeable amount of his music. I don’t think we can take away his ability to write completely. He’s a good writer and he’s proven it before.
I do think however, that his versatility in flows and deliveries is definitely in question after this. Who knows which pockets and creative choices really came from his mind when Yachty writing Jumbotron and Cash Cobain writing Calling For You for example.
For Jay-Z there is
Lupe writing on the black album
Kanye feeding him ref tracks IE payroll
future doing stuff on the joint album and shining and drunk in love which yes all involve beyonce but lyrics end up where they end up...
For Nas there is
stic.man
Jay electronica
QM doing ideas...
These moments / examples are all off the top of my head and they are 2 of the greatest rapppers of all time.
One day hip hop will grow up, I think. It's 2024 we global.
Drake has written entire songs for other artists. He came into the game as a songwriter. His most lyrical, personal songs are all written entirely by him. That's really all I care about.

Cash Cobain confirmed it was AI. Let's not start ignoring facts to fit the narrative. The Yachty and Vory songs are on 2 songs when he's dropped 60+ in the last 3 years
if jay had writers there’s nothing you could do to change the minds of anyone about it lol
nobody would care and nobody would downplay his legacy
It is interesting people upset he took a yachty and cash cobain record and a vory record. If them niggas released that on they own nobody would give a f*** about them songs now niggas do
I’ll just say this
Think Drake lost the ability to claim #1 OAT after 2015 (fair or not) that has done irreparable damage to his writing credit. From there the last two beefs combined with the amount of tracks floating out there is really starting to make it hard to objectively place him in the top 5. He’s still my favorite artist and I have no doubt his most intimate work was through him, but I can’t argue as people decide to knock him further and further down the list
This man has released 5 albums in 4 years and we get 2 references leaking and yall acting like Drake is illiterate when he's written for some of the goats. Dre, Ye, Bey, etc.

yeah im sure that cash cobain song was AI

These guys are more like some hybrid of a creative/art director + performer + sometimes writer. Which I have no problem with tbh

Ok let’s say that yes that is A.I and we just have these 2 reference tracks. Are we really going to sit here and act like there’s not a strong possibility of more reference tracks for songs that haven’t leaked yet? As if Mob Ties and Jumbotron are the only ones after Q…
I’ll just say this

This dude has always been the most level headed Drake Stan.
Need Drake to understand that people are seriously starting to question him and revisionist history is starting to take place to an extent. The best way to combat that is to drop a high quality project. No more bullshit that s*** is just not going to fly anymore

the reality is .... this perception of ye has changed over time as he got caught using writers
people used to call ye one of the best rappers in the LR + CD days
1/5 is a decent chunk if you ask me
Not really, especially when those songs could EASILY be replaced from other songs made around that time without Abel's involvement and when doing so would leave Take Care still just as strong, if not stronger as an album.
So, take out:
Shot for Me
Crew Love
Practice
The Ride
And replace them with:
Dreams Money Can Buy
Trust Issues
Club Paradise
Free Spirit
No Abel involvement. Still a great album.

Appreciate it man we all have our biases but I’m a hip hop fan more than I love any individual artist so gotta be fair
