I really wanted to like this and am always rooting for Vince, but Slowthai and Genesis Owusu made this album already. It’s pretty standard rap rock and there’s not much unique about the way he approached it instrumentally.

And while I realize that political rap like this shouldn’t always be subtle, the lyrics sound like they’re first drafts. A lot of the color and specificity of his best writing got replaced by broad sloganeering to make it hit harder for more people.

I just dont care for a lot of the hooks

I agree production could be a lil more interesting at times

  • Sounds like the Yeezus reaction when everyone was saying, it’s been done with Death Grips. The message on Cry Baby is profound and will be a highlight for the year

  • BrainWorms4U

Concept is still very relevant in 2026

slowthai and genesis owusu have mixed rock with hip hop sure but it simply was not this nor anywhere near as good as this, owusu’s writing on his last s*** is very on the nose and plain and slowthai has the same problem esp w the fact its a rapist talking about ah man my anger my anger !

  • BillyShears

Sounds like a fake tame impala record

Vince copped the Kevin Parker effects pedal

    ????????

  • Cherrywine001

Album sounds dated. Concept is surely dated. About a decade late on this one, Vince

this is maybe the most relevant time for this concept he could’ve done it

Yeah there are moments of that here but there’s also a lot not of that and the most plain writing is still mostly used for anthems for protest music not like entire drawn out verses that read like a twitter feed

Unfortunately the concept will never be dated but I totally agree on the music. This whole sound is very tired in 2026.
Same issues Rocky has with his rock crossovers. Drawing from the hottest sounds of ten years ago.

I def would have liked him to go more extreme/radical with the concepts though. The way Vince carries himself I would expect him to say some really out there s*** on here.
