  • Tbh the only albums I ever really f***ed with are S06, Ramona Park and Hell Can Wait

I bought the last album but I think it would’ve been good if he leaned into that Paris Texas type sound more

He’s best on the weirder beats. When he raps on these very normal beats it’s very bland

  • Agreed, been thinking this since Coldchain vol 1

How does a rapper trying to branch out to other avenues indicate they're not confident in their music? That's like saying 2013 Ye his heart wasn't in music anymore, that's why he's trying to do fashion

Also don't agree with not taking risk, probably has one of the most diverse sounding discographies of current mainstream rappers. BFT sound was a risk for him, the sound switched up again for that S/T and RPMBH era, his last album was rock

some ppl really just be yapping to be yapping
    presenting conjecture as facts

    But s/o Vince though.
for anyone who's not as informed on his discog my favs are:

Shyne coldchain 1 and 2, goat mixtapes of him
    Hell Can Wait
    Summertime 06
    Big Fish Theory
    FM!
    Vince Staples (self titled)
    Ramona Park Broke My Heart
    Dark Times
    Cry Baby

There's another mixtape or ep or 2 I didn't mention because I just never got into those as much as above. He has an almost flawless discography imo though

  • Whack.

    You meant mad whack…

I think he has a good understanding of his limits and strong suits, and also has command of a severe tone/atmosphere that informs his best music — but his pen is pretty weak to me (penis pretty weak to me? 🤨)

He has a good voice but rarely says anything all that interesting or clever in his raps, despite the fact he'll regularly do that elsewhere. Crybaby was a little embarrassing

Ye is a completely different situation than Vince as he branded himself as a art/fashion guy from day one pretty much. It never felt like a pivot. Ye was doing the same s*** at the peak of his career as he was doing at the lows. He’s also the GOAT lol

Most other artists do that kind of s*** when it’s kinda over for the music.

You’re right about BFT though. Everything after that isn’t really a risk because Vince Staples would have to do some really outlandish s*** to alienate his fanbase. I don’t think he has put out any recent music including his last album and thought “damn I might lose them with this one”. Crybaby plays in a range of sounds that Vince Staples fans probably already like in 2026.

  • he’s properly rated. his last 4 albums been kinda mid plus you can tell he doesn’t really fw music like that anymore and is just using it to branch into other stuff like acting which im not mad it

i dunno fam…i feel like he’s been pretty consistent with switching up his soundscapes and putting out music throughout his entire career so far (highs/lows included). i think his fans are not put back by crybaby because he’s established himself for awhile now to switch up and try new things

When you exist in the realm that Vince Staples does you can be pretty fluid with the sounds though. His fanbase has a wide palette.

Like I said he would have to do some really outlandish s*** for me to call it taking a risk.

Vince staples is not risking losing fans dropping political raps over post- tame impala instrumentation in 2026 lol

  • he shouldve kept making horrorcore no bs he had a talent for it

a bit harsh to say his p**** weak but there's a case to be made that his only really interesting lyrics are in the early stuff, mostly S06. he's still great at rhyming and flow but the same content has been endlessly recycled ever since which is why I'm not that interested in his newer music anymore

agree there's a disconnect between his rapper persona and the real Vince now and I wish he went back to being more real in the music as well. he's really funny and does have a lot to say so it's a bit confusing

  • Positivenamehere

@op bout to get flamed up the arse.

I agree with you but Vince is positively on this website's s*** list

    This site loves vince lol

He's so iconoclastic in interviews and antagonistic in dialogue. Off the cuff. None of that spontaneity makes it on the record. The live version of his most recent one is much better because it has some of that energy.

Another rapper who would pop more in a duo or trio format. More levity, less prestige biography. More reaction than agenda setting. I'm bored by how competent he is tbh.
