Really hate Apple’s practice of only renewing shows after each season finishes airing
Still though I’ll bet good money we get season two of this before season 3 of Severance
Love what I’m seeing so far. There are so many ways this could go and I have full faith that Vince will nail it
Carol cracks me up lmao her Karen-ness is definitely intentional even driving around in a cop car like come on hahahaha
So many other shows end up suffering because they’re run by essentially the TGI Fridays pilot girl.
Very excited for Lakshmi to become either a full on villain or Carol’s top partner

It was ordered for 2 seasons before they even started filming. Season 2 is already confirmed

they would love the character if it was the exact same but a man instead😂

You gotta be Vince Gilligan in disguise or something

I'm not really seeing the "she's so miserable" argument some of ya having in here considering her partner just died and the world pretty much ended she's actually pretty normal.

Granted they did show she was hard to please during the ice hotel scene but present day I don't see whats so miserable about her

I think she’s generally unpleasant company. For me though, I just don’t find her all that interesting. I find myself not caring if she has some introspective growth about personal happiness etc. She is a plain Jane white woman. My investment is her unraveling the mystery of the aliens/virus. I’d rather the show focus on the Mauritanian guy, and that Indian woman with the turned family if they explore that route. That’s a more interesting introspective dynamic than a cranky, depressed and lonely white woman.

She’s not unlikable she’s just unhappy

Shown by her 100k vacation at the northern lights where she whined the entire time.

Being unhappy can often times make you unlikable.

sometimes people say stuff like this and its the friend thats too woke meme but i feel like if carol was played by a guy, he would be the 'hes soo me...' comfort character. people would love him because hes the biggest hater and say thats how it really is sometimes.

What male character comes to mind?

  • Nov 30, 2025

They’re many many ways to push back on the “If Carol was a man you’d love her” nonsense.

I point to Myhla’la Herrold as Harper in Industry. Her character is a straight up b****, selfish, backstabber, cutthroat, and I’d say has a cynical world view. All around an unlikable person in most settings. But she is still a character I could root for despite disagreeing with a majority of choices she’s made throughout the series

I would love to hear your take on why focusing on the Mauritanian guy would be a more “interesting dynamic”, because he is by far the most one-dimensional character in the whole show

Can’t think of characters specifically but I can think of actors who could’ve played a complete male replica version of Carol and not gotten half of the likability discourse, and probably would’ve been seen as more empathetic, and someone easier to connect to and understand as a character

Imagine if this show was lead by someone like paul giamatti, john turturo, Jeffrey wright, jason schwartzman, mark ruffalo, bill murray, john c Reilly or even Bryan Cranston or Bob Odinkirk. I feel like people would be more open and charitable to the material, and more receptive to the characters a******ish, corny standoffishness and cynicism.

The only company she has really been unpleasant around is The Hive and the other 12 and I think context is important in this case. She obviously resents The Hive and she only started being unpleasant around the other 12 after they expressed they dont really care to fix things.

I don't really see how the other 2 are somehow vastly more interesting than Carol. Carol's the only character yet that has actually lost her loved one during the transition.

Im guessing we gonna see with the one Paraguay guy that seems similar to carol.

But off the top, just because the opening episode kinda reminded me of it. Joel from the Last of Us was an infinitely more unlikable character at the start but was very loved

Honestly who cares if she's likeable? The show itself is good.

this shot specifically may be symbolic for her reaching for trash (misery) rather than for the pretty blue sky (bliss)

Corny standoffishness needs to be in bold letters. Kinda getting tired of the WELL THAT JUST HAPPENED interjections from carol, I know Vince can write better than that. It doesn't ALL have to be sardonic What The F***kk?? 🤪 in response to all the crazy stimuli she sees

Like she's 2 seconds away from "derp" atp

Agree with that a few of her lines have gotten to like epic reddit Deadpool level imo
