Also paid extra attention to the scene when Smoke and Annie reunite after the discussions it had in here. I think it's kept quite ambiguous exactly what they are to each other up until the point that Smoke asks why her magic didn't save their baby. Before that, I remember him calling her "baby" and "woman" one time each. That could, but doesn't necessarily, imply a sexual and romantic relationship. The conversation was very tense. Annie is talking about Smoke and Stack like some lil bad ass hooligans. She just seems more grown. I don't think you could really know they were old lovers until its said and shown. But that's just my interpretation. I wonder if Ryan would agree/that was his intention.
?
They're having s***with each other the first time we see them on screen together
No more IMAX screening in my area after Thursday
Thunderbolts replacing it
Alright, I'll finally say it.
Given the themes of the film, does anyone else find it just a little bit contradictory having a white man from Sweden do the score?
Don't get me wrong, Ludwig did a phenomenal job and he's supremely talented. I love the score of the film. But it does take me out of the movie a bit when Delta Slim starts talking about how the blues is something African-Americans brought with them from home, or in that scene showing how the music can connect a people with their ancestors, knowing that a white dude from Sweden actually made the music that's playing rn. Would be cooler if it was from somebody that had more of connection to it.
Man please

He’s talking before that and he’s right actually, I had no clue who they were to each other until the s***scene

Well the theme of Black Panther isn't about how special the connection between African-Americans and their music is now is it
I got no problems with Ludwig doing the score for a "black movie". I said it's a little strange he did the score for this movie

You mean those few minutes / that convo that lead up to the s***scene?
I don't see what's wrong with giving it a few minutes to establish their (past) relationship? That's story telling, rather than letting them immediately flirt or something.

I don’t think anyone saying it’s anything wrong
It’s just written in a way where it’s intentionally ambiguous about who they are to each other. That’s not a knock, just an observation

I see. Well, yeah, same observation. Guess to me it just wasn't that noteworthy and I got too hung up on the ''I don't think you could really know they were old lovers until its said and shown.'' part

Only reason why it stuck in my mind was because for a minute there I thought she was like an older cousin or family friend for a bit. Especially the way she was talking about the twins.
But yeah it’s not a big deal or problem, I just feel where y’all coming from
Seeing it tonight in imax before it’s taken out
He’s talking before that and he’s right actually, I had no clue who they were to each other until the s***scene
i mean the first thing he does when he pulls up to her spot is go to his child’s grave and says “papa’s here”
then he goes inside and there’s a woman his age in there, and she’s asking him where he’s been the same way mary was just asking stack
it was pretty obvious imo

I have to watch again, feel like I didn’t notice a lot first watch so I’m sure you’re right and I do remember that scene looking back now

facts this why ppl saying this at all was so jarring to me after watching. i feel like niggas were coming to conclusions immediately for characters were just meeting and getting to know in barely a few minutes
My initial reaction was lookin at Grace sideways for letting them in but at the same time her daughters life was at risk and they probably didn't know how soon the sun was going to come up. somebody should've checked the time and waited it out :jordancry:
I understand Grace perspective but she could’ve waited a couple minutes for them to formulate a better plan.

This.
Those who it was crystal clear to from the minute the scene starts, cool. I just can see how others could view it as pretty ambiguous up until the point where it's no longer ambiguous.

Nothing's wrong. There was a discussion happening pages ago about the scene, that's really the only reason I wanted to comment on it on my rewatch. I, for example, posted that I thought it could've been his sister on my first watch (before you find out). Or whoever. The ambiguity, that's all.
