Yeah, movie would've hit a lot harder for me if I didn't see that
Still loved it though
but thats part of the misconception though. The idea of being a vampire doesnt sound bad on paper. You can’t be killed for the most part. You’re immortal and avoid death. You never age and get to be young forever. But youre still shackled as you can never go out at night, and your restricted on where you can and can’t go.
yeah i guess i could see that angle if you’re talking about immigrants bc they’re being sold on the idea that america is this great place
but as for the characters in the movie they had no choice but to assimilate bc they were born here and the real life consequences of that were already being showed in a literal sense
but it’s all up to interpretation
I think it’s more so like with them saying “the KKK is coming to kill yall” and they flashback to the fat white dude like ‘ahaa remember him???? Plot twistttt’….to me it’s unnecessary. Simply saying “the white guy who sold you this is KKK” is enough, we remember who he is
yep
Ranking Ryan’s films:
1. Fruitvale station
2. Sinners
3. Creed
4. BP1
5. BP2
I mostly agree with this
Swap BP1 and 2 (I’m in the minority on that I know lmao). I can’t have Fruitvale at 1 only because it’s been like 10 years since I’ve seen it lmao
I’m happy you brought that Slim point up ‘cause I didn’t even think of that
Deepens his character to me cause i’m sure it also speaks to how the “white man’s” religion that is being forced on PB is useless but the practices from our actual culture / religion protect him.
EXACTLY! s\*\*\* was so poetic dawg. like that was the most impactful message i got from the movie. everything else about it was great and entertaining but the way it was constantly but subtly reiterating that our music & creative expression is our superpower in the midst of all the chaos :whew:
maybe i’m just interpreting it that way bc i make music myself but that’s what i took from it

Ahhhh I got you.
Ahhhh I got you.
But I agree the flashback of stack I like because it’s for an emotional reason

yeah I've thought about the specific detail of religion a lot recently when it comes down to my own personal background. like Christianity was not the religion of my indigenous ancestors or my ancestors that were kidnapped from Africa and made slaves. It's the religion of colonizers that kidnapped and murdered our people in the name of Christianity. I've developed a stronger relationship with my faith over the past year or so but at the same time I can't tell if it's just comfort from growing up with it. So that was a strong sticking point for me in this movie.
Do we all agree if the franchise rumors are true then the sequel would follow stack??????? And probably Hailee’s character
Great interview attached at the end with Ryan Coogler where he nerds out more about cameras and speaking with Christopher Nolan and Francis Ford Coppola

100% would be the best option / way in imo

Most likely yeah but I want more Preacher Boy even though they clearly ended his storyline :(

Yeah I’m not sure how that would look it would for sure not be a vampire movie if they did that, which I don’t have an issue with

vamps vs vamps could be awesome. Don't know if I need it personally but I'd be there day 1\. "I've seen men die in ways I never thought possible" prequel with the twins in some supernatural Chicago s\*\*\* could be nuts too.
did the twins work for capone? i’m trying to figure out the underlying theme behind that if there is one

I would f***ing love a Chicago prequel ahhhh
Hope for no sequels or franchising and more original ideas.
i hope we enter a new era soon. it’s movies like this that could set a precedent

Yeah

probably. But are there actual rumors for a sequel? i would like for Coogler to just make something else. I doubt he'd be able to capture the magic again.
I mean, idk, i'm sure ppl said that when Terminator 2, and Aliens were announced. But i feel like a sequel of this wouldnt be able to live up to the quality of the 1st
Second watch even better man.
Delroy Lindo needs a (long overdue) Best Supporting Actor nomination, stole every single scene he was in
