Every game ever will set up the ground for games to come so by that logic there will never be a masterpiece. Also masterpiece doesnt mean "best thing ever" or "perfect work of art with no issues at all"
I agree that it doesn’t mean “best thing ever” because some masterpieces can be better than other masterpieces. But it should be “perfect with no issues at all” for YOU personally. For ME, there’s no game like that. And I don’t say why this could never happen when it has happened in music and movies.

No it hasnt, those movies/songs/albums might be perfect to you but they're not perfect at all. Games cannot be perfect because they're created from our minds with technology that's gonna keep evolving until our imperfect minds wont be able to come out with better technology.
To me a masterpiece is a piece of art that's widely regarded as great and has left a palpable impact on its medium, and videogames, literature, music, art and cinema has had quite a lot of those

If a videogame is widely regarded as not only great, but perfect/masterpiece, that doesn’t mean I have to agree with that. That’s why this is an unpopular opinion.

You dont have to think of it as a masterpiece but it will be regarded as that by the community. Not everyone thinks dark side of the moon is a masterpiece but critics, fans and music listeners think it is and its regarded as such
doom eternal is the most underrated game last year & probably the funnest fps in recent time
But it just seems like the same game as DOOM 2016 with a meaner looking sawed off and some new monsters.
Idk but the graphics upgrade just didnt wow me. Back in 2016 I think DOOM was the first game I played on my 1080 and I was shook
Also, I never really f***ed with the Uncharted series like that. S*** just looked bland and lame to me
Delete this.

if you can’t tell the differences between the two games, you didn’t play one of them lmao
Uncharted after the first one is trash
Last of Us trash
Ghosts of Tushishit trash
Spider Man trash
Red Dead Redemption 2 is MID AF
perfect example of prioritizing everything else > gameplay

it’s not. Eternal is a little more challenging and they added some platforming.
This but replace half life with halo
halo is a stronger pick at least half life didn’t limit you to 2 weapons

nah they're pretty different
the movement is a lot smoother and fast paced with the addition of the dash
certain enemies can be taken down quicker with the right weapon attachment but the amount of enemies thrown at you makes it harder for you to come up with right way to take em down
the maps are also structured different since they made it semi platformer-ish

You're saying there's no masterpiece yet, I'm telling you that there won't ever be one by your definition. You will always be able to identify issues in a video game. And the reason why it's happened in movies/music and not games is because game development is usually a collaborative effort between hundreds of people but movies and music have a lead director or artist in charge of making decisions. Everyone has their own ideas and roles in developing a game, its impossible to have everything up to the same standard with no issues at all. Then you have the added pressure of publishers and execs forcing their will onto developers. Small team indie developers avoid this but they have their own issues like graphics and scope.
Expecting a game with no issues at all (even by your own standards) is crazy, game development just doesn't work like that and never will. Your opinion isn't unpopular or a hot take, its just a far fetched dream that won't ever become reality.

Last of Us trash

Spider Man trash
charging people to play video games online is some scummy ass s***
Servers cost money my boy
Sure there has
Re4
God of War
The Last of us
Shadow of the colossus
2 of those are movies tho

Wait nobody is in charge of making decisions in game development? I’m not sure about that. But either way, I don’t see why the fact that games are a collaborative effort makes it impossible for a masterpiece by my standards to ever exist. Toy Story did it
And indie games don’t necessarily need to have any issues. For instance, Limbo was a masterpiece the first couple of levels but it peaks too early, it doesn’t have any more memorable moments after the spider and the ending disappointed me.

Idk if you ever read Blood, Sweat and Pixels but check it out if you haven't. The development of movies and music do not encounter those issues, which is what I was getting at. This is in addition to the technological, budgetary and time constraints already pointed out to you.
You're saying there's no masterpiece YET, I can guarantee you the masterpiece you're waiting for will never arrive. We have to weigh up the mistakes in a video game and decide whether we're willing to overlook them in the grand scheme of things, whether the experience overall is still a masterpiece even with those flaws. There will always be a lack of memorable moments or disappointing ending equivalent in every single game you play, that's just how it is
