God of War was the most boring game I’ve had the displeasure of playing. I couldnt even finish it. Not sure why it’s so acclaimed
Swear I bought this s*** years ago and still haven't finished it. I remember playing the old GoW games and they were way more fun gameplay wise.
half life ruined the fps genre
You’re gonna need to elaborate on that because it is a bad take
7th gen was much worse than 8th gen and aged bad in terms of art direction etc.

it started the trend of story driven and slower paced gameplay in fps and everyone copied it badly
This but replace half life with halo
Ocarina of Time
Bloodborne
The Witcher 3
???
Those are among the best games of all times. That doesn’t mean they are masterpieces tho. When the first masterpiece comes out, these games would be considered influential but not masterpieces.
I just think video games have the potential to be better than movies by very far, but they haven’t reach that point yet.
Not true, SNES era games like Mario or Super Metroid are the closest to being flawless masterpieces.
Those are just the pioneers.
Here is an unpopular opinon:
There is not a single video game that is a “masterpiece.” It hasn’t been made yet.
Super Mario 64, Half Life 2, God of War (ps4)

You're just being unnecessarily nitpicky and pretentious when it comes to nomenclature
How can those be classics/some of the best games ever but there isn't a single masterpiece in gaming yet because that term is reserved for some standard you have in your head that may never even exist in your lifetime or ever
Maybe you look down on video games as an art form in comparison to movies but this is just some ridiculous s*** to believe

Re4

The Last of us
Shadow of the colossus

Because I’ve never been 100% satisfied with a video game as I’ve had with songs for instance. Plus I want to make video games so
Seriously, there isn’t a single thing you think The Witcher 3 could’ve done better?
And why can't the pioneers be masterpieces?
Because they’re just setting up the ground for better things to come.

There will never be a masterpiece by your definition, a flawless game is impossible. There will always be something you can think of to improve. Even game developers themselves have these ideas that they can't implement because of technological, budgetary and time constraints. Those will always be factors in video game development, so there will always be things that could have been done better.
It just depends what flaws you as a gamer are willing to overlook. For example, RDR 2 has sluggish movement and gunplay, which are pretty big gripes. But the story, open world and graphics are so well done that many gamers are willing to overlook its issues and still consider it a masterpiece
I'd say God of War is the closest thing to your definition of a masterpiece imo but even that had a lack of enemy variety.
The same can be applied to music, Runaway's intro would be considered obnoxious and unnecessary by most if the rest of the song wasn't so damn good. There's no such thing as objectively perfect art
Because they’re just setting up the ground for better things to come.
Every game ever will set up the ground for games to come so by that logic there will never be a masterpiece. Also masterpiece doesnt mean "best thing ever" or "perfect work of art with no issues at all"
Also, I never really f***ed with the Uncharted series like that. S*** just looked bland and lame to me
Played the collection and don’t get the hype for 2 s*** was ass with the enemies

My opinions are on a personal level only. Runaway is not a perfect song for everybody, but it is for me, and that makes it a masterpiece for me, because I literally wouldn’t change a single thing from that song. Same thing with Toy Story, for instance. In video games, however, that has never happened to ME. In my whole life, since like 4 years old, I would always think of ways my favorite games could be better, way better.
