The 2017 double-punch of Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey hasn't yet been surpassed, I don't have any nostalgia for that year, I got my Switch during the pandemic, but they're some of the best games I've ever played, top 10 material, I don't know if we'll ever see something else like it, both are the peaks of their respective franchises IMO

If we're being honest though, from has never been good at telling players how to play their games. If someone starts with any one of them without looking up guides or having preconceived notions they'll end up frustrated very early on. If from was better at introducing newcomers to their style i feel more people would pull through. I had to look up which stats to ignore in ds1 because i wouldve wasted tons of souls on resistsance which Is useless. If i didnt know rolling was a main mechanics i wouldve died much more, and dark souls is the best from game in introducing you to its mechanics. Imagine a newcomer playing dark souls 3, without knowing what theyre doing i doubt anyone could defeat gundyr because the tutorial area is ass, doesnt teach s*** and gundyr is way too hard

Tbh Pokemon's combat system combined with catching mechanics is top 5 game design ever, theres a reason people keep buying buggy/glitchy mess, its that solid ass core that pokemon has that no other series got to that level. I prefer how SMT handles It, but Pokemon got amazing designs, easy enough and intuitive battle system and catching pokemon is very fun. I havent even glanced at a Pokemon game since gen 6, but i cant deny they struck gold

Splatoon 2, mario rabbids, xenoblade 2, smaller games like snipperclips, arms, golf story and fast rmx. Crazy lineup, had it all, and without even counting the wii u ports. Maybe on par with the legendary ps2 lineup
