• FF7 isn't a top 3 game in the series
• DKC2: Diddy's Kong Quest is by far and away the greatest platformer on SNES
• Halo Reach ain't all that
• Chrono Cross just as good as Trigger
• CoD4 the best game in the series
• Battle royales and MOBAs are trash
• The Far Cry series isn't worth playing over any other major open-world action franchise
• Zelda wasn't that great until it went 3D
• Uncharted games are slightly above-average at best (bonus: Crash and Jak collections are still Naughty Dog's finest work that I've played)
• Tekken and OG Mortal Kombat >> Street Fighter
• Tetsuya Nomura's whole convoluted and retcon-happy approach to story design is extremely overhated
• Turn-based combat is great
Out at Halo Reach take though
Almost every 2D platformer is boring and extremely punishing for no f***ing reason.
CD Projekt should remake the first Witcher and redo the entire combat because it's painfully dated.

OG NES Zelda and BOTW are the best Zelda games because of their open-world approach, everything since has had some great puzzle solving but it feels a bit like you're on rails
The 2D Sonic games have a fundamental flaw where the ideal way to play is to treat it like an endless runner and miss 90% of what's been designed in the level, the platforming sucks too, Sonic 3 is the only one that achieves greatness
Super Mario Galaxy often has a bizarre chore-y feeling to the levels that makes it not v fun to play sometimes, Galaxy 2 fixes all of those problems and is a masterpiece
Odyssey>SMG2>SM64>SMS>SMG
The Bioshock games have really boring shooting mechanics and the gameplay feels like an excuse to get to the story, IMO it should be the other way around
allot of japanese games f***in suck ppl just pretend to like them cause of the aesthetic tbh
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl the best in the series
Gen 4 just the best Gen tbh. Amazing games
Kingdom Hearts 1 is the only great one. 2 is fun but the most overrated game I can think of.
All 3 Bioshock games are fantastic in their own ways and constantly weighing them against each other is annoying
Souls like games are great on plenty of levels but their trial and error style of design is fundamentally flawed and more frustrating and tedious than engaging.

2 might be overrated but it’s still better than 1 lmfao. when is the last time you played those games? combat in 1 is clunky and sluggish AF compared to the fluidity of 2

I played them last year. 2’s combat isn’t even that great, it only has depth on the hardest difficulty with the secret bosses. I don’t play kingdom Hearts for combat anyway. The selling point was getting to explore childhood films and in 2 the game holds your hand through them. It’s just flat linear boxes the whole way through, endless different colored rooms with mindless combat. The first game has actual level design, a significantly better written story, combat that’s slow but more interesting in terms of decision making. It’s weighty, you feel every swing of the Keyblade. 2 is fun and flashy but little else.

this is a whole lotta cap bruh
the story in 1 might be a lil better yeah, but i really enjoyed the whole Roxas element and learning about the more interesting parts of KH lore in the second one

It’s not. There’s plenty of people that prefer 1 and 9 times times out of 10 people will say “yeah the story in 2 is a mess, 1 is better at least on that level”. I’ve been playing these games since they first came out. I honestly even like 3 slightly more than 2. It also at least has actual levels.

alright you just went full contrarian
alright you just went full contrarian
3 hate is wild to me. Never understood it. I think people are genuinely way too nostalgic about the second one. I’ll give you the Roxas thing. The opening of 2 is brilliant. However the whole adventure after that is just filler most
of the time, even the cool worlds like Timeless River and Space Paranoids are also just flat linear rooms. There’s nothing to do in any of the worlds. The first game by comparison has like a Metroidvania style design, you get new abilities and go back to old worlds and can access new areas. I even like the platforming as clunky as it is. Everything feels so much bigger in that game. Traverse Town alone is so detailed. The story had been dog s*** for a decade so I don’t get why people were so disappointed with 3’s, there was no way to save it at that point. The combat in 3 was mostly as smooth as 2 and the level design was significantly improved. That Toy Story level is one of the best things in the series. I’d rather replay that then go to any world in 2. Imagine wanting to run around Mulan hallways lol.

BioShock came out in 2007. The mechanics were actually pretty great for the time.
I feel like this game is so amazing that people hold it to an impossibly high standard instead of comparing it to other contemporary games at the time.
Like… Halo 3 dropped 2007, and that’s maybe the only shooter at the time that had appreciably greater mechanics than BS, in my opinion.
As much as I’m confident in my hot takes here, I honestly hate reading hot takes. I’d rather hear why people love something than why it doesn’t connect with them. Convince me to try something than push me away from it.

i never thought i’d be one of them niggas but ddadass got gud
not a hot take but a point on some of people’s criticisms
i hate on rails feeling as much as the next person but i think the criticism needs to expand beyond just « on rails »
i feel like naughty dog does this kinda stuff really well, and i think freedom in video games come with a cost
i’m drunk and it’s not even 10am so maybe i’m wrong f*** it idk

you prefer kh3 over 2? Now that's a hot take
Not mad at it, playing it on Critical + Remind is def a good experience and not deserving of the hate it got.
Level design on 2 is really lackluster. Olympus coliseum is so depressing

Go to Halloween Town/Christmas Town and glide through it. It’s so funny that’s it literally just a straight line. They didn’t even try lmao. As a grown man I’d rather walk Rapunzel through the forest again. I’m hard on 2, but I still like it. It has very memorable high moments.

Nah, for sure. Open world games got so trendy that it’s what people came to expect almost. Some production companies treat it like being open world somehow makes your bland game not suck ass.
