They are doing an anime series . That anime intro made me think movie was going to be a built world that didn’t rely on Harrison Ford jerk off and gosling . Boy was I wrong
I had a feeling it was going to be like that when the trailers dropped but I thought maybe I should be less jaded about Ford and Gosling but then the movie dropped
Miami Vice definitely getting more props in internet film circles. personally I don't see it. Got a lot of things going for it to be sure, but there's so much downright trash about it that I can't fw it

IIRC there’s a scene where they talk at this dope ass place with a view on the ocean and out of the blue during the convo the camera starts to slowly zoom in on the balcony view while they still talking (and it’s not like the conversation is related or metaphoric)
Idk why but this shot has stuck w/me forever it’s hypnotizing and I think it’s genius
Iconic scene.
Mann uses similar daydreaming character moments in various other films of his too, and they're always really effective.
And I'd argue that Miami Vice's "daydream moment" does indeed relate to the scenario/dialogue it inhabits though — and that it's one of several key moments in the film where commentary is addressed with dramatic focus. Even though most sequences in the film each progressively add to its concept(s), there are a handful of scenes, such as the "ocean daydream", that take a step back and put what we've been shown so far into perspective.
I'm being purposely vague here to avoid slapping a huge post in the middle of this thread, haha. But if you'd like to chat about it (or the film in general) in more detail with each other, then lemme know and we can move to PMs on the old site or use discord or something :)

The world needs a Miami Vice thread.
But that sounds dope yeah hopefully maybe when they add PM’s here (I’m lazy)
Yeah I’ve noticed it’s a trademark Mann shot, I absolutely love it and relate a lot, Mann is up there for me with Shyamalan and Ridley Scott.

I'm not huge on Ridley Scott, but that's due to me having seen too few of his films as much as it is a judgment of taste. I love Shyamalan tho, but I'd put Mann quite a few pegs higher than him on my list tbh — He's one of my all-timers, whereas Shyamalan is moreso someone whose work I really admire.
In relation (literally) to Ridley though, for a while I've been wanting to dive more into Tony Scott's work because the few I've seen in the past were all pretty nice. There's a few folks I follow that seem to love most of his stuff as well, so I'm interested in finding out for myself haha.

No but its been on my watchlist for a while. I always forget Ridley did that one too haha, but it always seemed like something I'd be interested in checking out for sure

Yeah definitely man, well I’m obsessed with Cartel stuff so that’s that but if you’re in the mood for that I say make it a priority then, it’s a must of the genre imo
Never tried Letterboxd, should I? Saw some other people here bringing it up

Yeah make a Letterboxd fam. Its a nice way to log/rate films you watch, make lists, and follow others to see what they've been watching too.
And even though I largely ignore the greater "public" sections of the site, where you can read any user's reviews/lists even if you don't follow them, you might like using it to browse those as well. (Just be warned that there's a good bit of novelty/meme accounts that just treat the platform like twitter/instagram, and you can throw a rock in any direction and it will probably hit half a dozen users with absolutely atrocious takes on almost anything lol.)
However, it's fairly easy to find more interesting and likable users to follow too, and there's a big thread on here (and on the old site) filled with people sharing their profiles to get you started if you want to follow some folks.
But even if you dont follow a decent circle of people, the app is still the best personal film log and database out there IMO. I'd use it even if followers weren't a feature.
