Meme music is broad. Music can be considered meme music if memes help propel it to the top. Death Grips is considered meme music but there’s a lot of effort put into their music, whether it sounds good to the listener or not. Memes definitely helped Tyler’s success so he’s in the category of good meme music where it’s not ironically good but it’s still got enough material to meme from. MBDTF can be considered meme music to some people.

He didn’t say it for them but they ended up getting meme’d. Whether you like it or not they’re gonna be cemented as meme music.

he made a joke about 2pac rhyming Hennessy and enemies so 2pac is a joke artist

Idk if you understand the meaning of the word meme and its historical baggage lol

Which meaning cause there’s the OG OG definition which is an element of a culture or system of behaviour passed from one individual to another by imitation or other non-genetic means. or the new definition which is joking. So in a sense, all music is meme music

I understand people wanting to call the exact people out but bro needs a check as much as anyone else lol has nothing to do with “wanting to be in the industry”, more or less about having a pay check and budget for his next album

Then he shouldn't portray himself as someone who cares deeply about the art/culture and speak on those issues if his money is the most important thing to him.

Also he desperately wanted to be in and accepted by the industry lol.

There’s a kernel of objective truth in there about how artists are marketed to us, and how the vocal part of rap media/social media will mostly play along and act fake-surprised when it turns out that, say, a Bossman DLow strictly puts out songs that sound 99% similar to Get In With Me. Nothing wrong with that – just like a meme, if you like the format once then it’s probably gonna still hit for you when it pops up again

The idea that they’re taking up potential space that Tyler could be using is laughable though

How is it DLow’s fault that one song blew up? All his songs sound the same and it’s suddenly his fault Solange chose one at random to go viral?
And now he suddenly has to switch it up to prove to you and Tyler he’s a legitimate artist?

  • It’s not just cacs man lol it’s a loud minority of people who are incredibly uncultured and disengaged with art. Not everyone cares about art the same way people on this site do. It’s a symptom of baby food info and criticism from social media. I understand your framing and you’re not wrong. I just don’t believe it’s the “cacs” fault lol

Think it’s easier for people to say that that don’t work in the industry

Exmilitarys one of my favorite projects OAT. I’m not mocking it by. Calling it meme music. I’m just saying it’s considered that because the memes fans made helped catapult their success. Idk why yall think that’s an insult when that’s just the way it is

Exactly. Call out the artists, A&Rs, and label execs that create and push those kinds of rappers. Ian is just a symptom of the problem. Tyler won't tho because he still wants to be in the industry lol.

I don't really know why. F*** it. He's got all the ties he really needs for music, business, and fashion if he decides to call people out. This is one of those moments where Tyler is at a position where he can say stuff like this, and actually make some kinda change.

Tyler is a mulitmillionaire with multiple business ventures. Even if he was cut off from the music industry he'd still be living good. He's not some regular person who's life would be f***ed up if he lost his job.
