Ktt mad because they stanned tf out of those artists until they disappeared a year later
He’s right. A LOT of these newer rappers don’t give af about the actual craft, they aren’t trying hard
No wants to be the best anymore
And the ones that I see that say they want to be the best really just mean they want to sell alot.
"Honestly JPEGMAFIA, he’s way more exciting and fresh imo"
vs
"Not mad just humored lol u internet niggas are something man"
is JPEGMAFIA > Tyler not the opinion of an internet nigga?
Dawg I listen to music and have a preference. It’s internet nigga behavior to get this tight and a***ytical about something as subjective about my ears liking what they like

I don’t mind some jpeg songs. I think he’s a good producer for the most part but the d*** riding that dude gets is crazy

^Shit like this is just straight up goofy
There’s a kernel of objective truth in there about how artists are marketed to us, and how the vocal part of rap media/social media will mostly play along and act fake-surprised when it turns out that, say, a Bossman DLow strictly puts out songs that sound 99% similar to Get In With Me. Nothing wrong with that – just like a meme, if you like the format once then it’s probably gonna still hit for you when it pops up again
The idea that they’re taking up potential space that Tyler could be using is laughable though
This dude fantano really said he’s shaping up to have one of the best Discogs in hip hop
And all his fans be saying s*** like that. Bro can’t even rap that good, He doesn’t have the ability to write full songs with good bars or any depth to them

starting to feel like JPEGMAFIA is the Carti for internet hipsters just with none of the “aura” (and production ability) obviously
they’re close to each other in the sense of what people come to them for (production, vibes, forward thinking music) i feel like
he’s like the reverse weave of what Carti is as an artist while retaining the essence

I’m just so confused, People talk about him like he’s so deep or something. Dude ain’t saying s*** on these songs lmao
Why y’all s*** on Travis for saying nothing but Jpeg just gets the pass?
one thing a place like this is always gonna do is cherrypick who to be mad at for being underwhelming at a certain aspect but ignore it when it comes to another nigga with a different appeal
the best example of this is the niggas who label themselves as lyrical rappers getting clowned on but the ones that rap about street s*** get a pass on being mediocre because that's what's considered cool and not corny
the same thing can be applied to Peggy and Travis

i dont understand ur point ngl
xxl list is wack in 2024 that's all that cash not caring abt the freestyle shows.
everyone on that list is still deserving of the title "musician" imo
that’s backwards tho
it’s xxl fault for expecting rappers to rap fr?
when that’s been their entire platform from jump?
like yeah they could change their whole format, but is that really doing anything to help these artists if they not helping themselves with the fundamentals?
I’m not saying they’re not musicians, it’s just about effort and giving a f*** about the craft.
Tyler’s musicality even in the early odd future stuff prevents yall being able to do the “contrarian to a statement theres no reason to be a contrarian to” thing the internet does with everything now
rap is a hustle mentality is definitely a thing and niggas dont wanna admit that bc certain types of rap fans dont wanna say anything negative about street adjacent acts lol
no i genuinely think trying to draw a line between "real" music and street rappers is rooted in white supremacy. even if rappers front like they don't care abt music, if they have found enough success to be known by you, they care. its up to them to claim or discard labels like "musician" or "rapper" bc it's part of the image building. part of being a cultural figure is putting on an image, and even the denial of such labels is an artistic statement in itself.
like if some 70s/80s rock guys went into interviews talking about how they're really just all about partying and being crazy, and they're not even really musicians, everyone would chalk it up to just artists talking abt themselves in weird ways. or in other words, artists being artists. the reaction would be like "that's so metal!" or some s***. but no self-respecting critic would then use that to say they shouldn't be counted as musicians, right?
but when a black artist does something like that, it's taken purely at face value and they're s***-talked and ridiculed, at least by weird pretentious guys like Tyler.
that’s backwards tho

I’m not saying they’re not musicians, it’s just about effort and giving a f*** about the craft.
the genre has evolved. different strengths matter more now than others. being able to match the sound of a beat and being able to come up with a good chorus is honestly much more important than being able to do an acapella freestyle. XXL expecting rappers in 2024 to spit bars with no instrumental or anything is simply outdated and pointless.
in other words, yes its XXL fault that they cant keep up w the times and stick to outdated standards, and cash is totally within his rights to call them out for it. it has nothing to do w effort or giving a f*** about the craft.
But Frank Sinatra still loved music
I think this is the distinction Tyler is trying to make between artists and people only in it for the money
i'm standing on this. I don't think any successful musician doesn't love music. obviously, in the streets rappers have a bad rep for being soft and fake or wtv, so its not cool to publicly identify urself as a rapper or musician. but at the same time, the music industry is extremely competitive. sure, meme rappers do exist, like the island boys are a complete joke. but to have an actual fanbase that checks for you requires effort, talent, and a love for music, even if some rappers don't want to admit it bc it sounds soft.
and i want to say it again. if some white rock stars said some s*** like this nobody would take it as a serious confession that they're not actually musicians, they would see it for what it is: an image thing. but when black artists do this, people are so quick to assume they really are talentless hacks only in it for the money, even if their catalog clearly shows otherwise.
