I remember absolutely hating it after the initial watch because it felt so goofy and out of place but thematicaly it makes so much sense especially right before the final episode

I should rephrase, I was mainly talking about the last 5 minutes of Sopranos. Now of course we're in the Twin Peaks thread so I won't say too much. But I found it to be jarring & unfulfilling at first. And I could see how someone could have that reaction to the Twin Peaks S3 finale last 5 minutes for example. But for me that Sopranos turnaround lasted two weeks and for Twin Peaks that was 5 minutes. Now I look at those finales and say, those are some pretty nice finales. Especially Twin Peaks finale is unforgettable.
