This isn't Omnisphere 3. Nobody with any actual producing ability gives a f*** about Serum.
bro talm bout omnisphere in the big 2025
what you mean is kontakt
thats how you know he's not an "actual" producer lol - is been one of the most popular vsts since the 2010s forever. up there with sylenth, massive, nexus, omni, kontakt, diva and alturia a***og lab which are the most popular instrument vsts if im not mistaken from 2008/2009 to now
and serum is used in a lot s*** from rap to electronic to even rnb
and its one of the main vsts used for sound designers that dont just load up pre-made presets all day - like me, who sold beat kits and still does custom sound design creation for people online n irl
hows the CPU usage
its good but my computer is the equivalent to a budget to middish range game PC so im not the right one to ask about that specifically, if its a general issue for someone
i do know serum 1 ran on a lot tho no issues iirc
i'll check the number i get back for serum 2 in the cpu usage in just a bit n let u know
Massive better tho, but too bad its sequel sucked
i was thinking about downloading massive x, why does it suck ?
i was thinking about downloading massive x, why does it suck ?
its not that massive x sucks, its fine and good for what it is, but it became a general generic synth vst
it lost the character and quirks of og massive - which i love the "edge" and "metallic shine" sound of og massive that gave a lot of bite to its sounds and the sounds you can develop in it
its why massive x ended up disappointing to I and a lot of the producer community, although it looks really nice and easy to get into
serum 2 and sylenth 2 - its contemporaries and "genre" of market vsts - they all still kept their character n purpose while adding a lot
if you dont have any or little vsts tho it will do the job as the general vsts
a similar thing happened to Izotope's mixing/effect VST a year or 2 ago - Trash2 (thats what its literally called) - which Trash1 is a classic and a sequel was highly anticipated mainly for a UI upgrade because its from iirc the late 2000s and its UI is ass for nowadays, but it came out really generic and didnt fit its niche or purpose which disappointed all the producer community and most still use Trash1
EDIT: luckily og massive is easy to get nowadays tho. it comes free in a lot of paid daws like FLStudio and also goes for really cheap and sometimes even free from the developer since its been around for a long time now - i still use it a lot and it was the first vst i personally learned sound design in

also og massive is just super intuitive to use literally everything sounds good

you legit the angriest user on here man lmao.
also og massive is just super intuitive to use literally everything sounds good
yup, and how it labels settings and "vibes" as adjectives and moods ON TOP of the technical names helps a lot with understaning things too and getting right into it
it also having everything up front not hidden thru a bunch of different pages or areas helps a ton too
but man i just love its natural sound
when i was learning sound design this is the beat i came up with that was inspired by yeezus, back in like 2014/2015 (im also HS class of 2014), besides the drums and backing vocal choir - most of the sounds developed by just me inside of Massive no external effect neither besides EQ and it was my breakthrough that was part of what got me hired in 2016/2017 at a local studio for co-production and sound design
you can hear that "metallic shine" and "edge" in the sounds @grave_party
i make a lot of better ish for many years now but its still a very special piece in memory that is also good in my portfolio showcase and its still hard
you legit the angriest user on here man lmao.
yeah idk what is wrong with dawg nor what he talm bout
that opinion would get laughed out the room in any semi serious room and it would just be confusing asl to any newcommers

yeah there's a lot of stuff you can make in massive i personally started using it because i needed someting that had good sub bass/moog bass sounds

Never used massive but youve convinced me to give it a shot. What exactly is responsible for the metallic character youre emphasising?
That vocaroo reminds me of the stuff i used to make in high school. One of the tracks i have i was trying to make gabber but it wasnt even in 4/4
We all come a long way

Heavy bass and aggressive synths is what I love the most for it, and the occasional custom riser

Tells me exactly what type of beat maker you are smh

Yeah that beat was me in senior year HS still trying develop my own sound and just trying to make anything - the creativity of that period in a producers life is so high even tho you don't fully have the skill - then once you do get the skill fully you don't have as much as that creative wild anything goes I'm doing whatever attitude and focus, if only both can happen at the same time
That beat nowadays I would clean up the drums and do more effects, plus on top of sound design; mixing is main forte nowadays so that would have been improved way way higher of matching the main synth with the drums - but the overall sound design and structure was such a big breakthrough and I still use some of those custom sounds of my that are present in that 10/11 year old beat especially that riser-like siren synth sound in stuff to this day just done way more better
But honestly I'm not sure why Massive has that kind of characteristic to it. Even it's own patches/presets have it and custom presets I download from the internet or from other producer friends. It might be something with the default settings, or perhaps just coded like that. But everyone agrees Massive X doesn't have "it" of the og, whatever that "it" is exactly.
I know it's really popular in stuff like Synthwave, deep house, dark RNB, trap & hardcore dnb.
When I have a chance I'll post other beats of mine that use mostly Massive too. They all have that characteristic to it and I love it. Gives some recognizability to the beats too.
I love using is for aggressive lead/synth sounds, hard bass & risers the most. Then I will also do some wild pad or atmosphere-like things here n there too.

so yeah these are two beats i made during covid that are made thru massive
besides the drums this one is mostly custom massive besides the brass that happens a minute in which is thru kontakt:
besides the drums this one is all entirely custom massive sounds:
i do more Dance stuff nowadays when it comes to my own ish n collabs but for more rap or rnb my beat styles are either really heavy synth beats like above, or really heavy orchestral beats like these:
!
i suck ass at sampling and i hate using pre-made loops but i wanted to make beats so bad so i had to learn sound design fast and it worked out - thankfully Massive og was a plugin added to the fullest version of FL12 way back in the day
@fka_sebastien so im fully home now n checked serum 2
yeah it works fine and is stable, it was also picked up by FL easy like usual i didnt have to do anything special
It also only raised my CPU up by 3 percent. went from a basline of 2 to then 5 once i loaded it up. real light. its DOPE!
Any of you own hardware synths?
macbook pro..
you know a good "entry level" synth? i was considering arturia minifreak
im fine with second hand
How you like the Moog 37?
I been wanting one for a long time, Either that or a Moog matriarch
I got a prophet 6 and a Tempest (super underrated)
There’s definitely some kind of magic using a***og synths tho. I’ll f*** around on Diva for like an hour then immediately get something cooler off my prophet in like 2 minutes lol
