Have you looked into the ableton push 3 ?

I’ve been using push 2 for like 5 years. Don’t need anything else.

Push 3 has a standalone version so it can truly be dawless

I find sound designing more intuitive using serum compared to omnisphere. Omnisphere does come with a lot of great presets tho

U should try astra. Its not super technical but i find it easy to make good sounds with, something about the tone of its sound is unique

I have a MPC key 37 and it’s small enough to move around the house with. Need to be plugged in though

I’m about to get a Live 2 as well. It’s battery powered and has built in speakers. Def very portable

But to your point yeah it has become more “dawlike” in recent years
