This will be norm. It's already here.
The caveat is that you still need the discernment to be a good decision maker.
It's sort of like using a beatstarter loop to get a beat going. Sometimes you need somewhere to start so you can eventually bring it to a place that's true to your DNA and vision. When it comes to screenwriting, people will advise you to do a vomit draft, just so you get something down and can start connecting things. This works in a similar way.
The true work of an artist comes in deciding what to keep, what to discard, what to change. If you have a low critical threshold, you're going to be amazed by the first generic pathways AI throws your way. But, it is possible to start in a place of banality and move it to a place of originality, piece by piece. That's the human. That's the artist.
You can use AI like the "Ship of Theseus" thought experiment.
GG, Chat GPT
Sometimes—
On rare occasions—
Chat GPT comes up with
A better idea than me
And I say,
GG
One day it’ll beat me
With the accuracy
Of an ETA on a driving app
And I’ll be blowing stop signs
Trying to beat it
Was the model trained using 100% ethically sourced data?
Was it trained and run using 100% renewable energy?
We need more AI not less.

The AI crybabies acting like the world is ending are hardly better than the boomers who thought the same about Y2K
Idk why people are always so scared of technology. It’s a tool and a resource. Use it to your advantage.

I don’t deny that AI use will increase whether we like it or not but I’d disagree that the mark of a creative talent is the ability to make decisions. Everyone thinks they have good taste and knows what’s best for a project. It’s easy to give opinions on something. It’s what separates critics from creatives
At the end of the day, being able to create is a luxury not a necessity. If you don’t want to do the creative part of creating I’d question if it’s something you even like doing

Ok, so what's the mark of a creative talent?
You are doing the creative part of creating, it's just helping expedite the process. Do you need to like doing it in order to want to do it? I'm not creative because it's fun. It's a pain in the ass a lot of the time. I'm creative because I want to make cool s***. It's fulfilling.

Sitting around picking and choosing what to keep and what to ditch from someone else’s work isn’t really creating imo. It may require some creativity but it isn’t the same as creating
Personally, I think you do have to like it if you want to pursue it because it’s something that takes a lot of time to be successful at with a good chance that you might not ever make it. So if you don’t like doing it you’re gonna drive yourself crazy trying to chase success and will burn yourself out
This is just my opinion tho
Nothing better than coming up with ideas though, it’s like one of the best parts of creating.
I get it.
Nobody wants to have a nuanced discussion about AI because it's such an easy topic to throw performative swings at.
But, it's the new Google. It's not going away.
Genuinely wonder if some of yall understood how to even google s*** before chat GPT
I personally don't want AI as an equal collaborator but I guess it depends on y'all cases. If you're an artist of all kinds, come up with your s*** because no robot is like you. If you're a programmer, vibe coding is how we get apps like Tea that can get breached easily.
And I'm not yet convinced about the nuance within the "AI is here; deal with it," crowd, because most of the time, these folks are just as dismissive, to the point of naivety, and giving AI that much grace would require us to turn a blind eye to the real-life destruction that data centers bring to small communities and our environment. Nobody wants to foot Zuckerberg's bill.

That's fine, we all have our opinions.
I think picking and choosing what to keep and what to ditch from someone else's work is precisely the thing which makes Kanye a genius. As an artist, you should be arriving at all the same conclusions as Chat GPT anyway, because you should be considering all possible options. This just speeds things up.
I've heard interviews where Charlie Kaufman says writing is like pulling teeth.
Another moron using the “it’s coming anyway so might as well use it” argument. Have heard no other reason.
The other reason is that it can help you arrive at good ideas faster if you use it right

See and that was never an aspect of Kanye I ever found all that impressive but even then he had to get to the point where people respect him enough to take his opinions seriously. He had to prove himself as a creative first
Writing is hard and tedious. There will be some days where it just flows out of you and others where you hate everything you write so I can see why he’d say that but there’s also some fun in writing something you’re excited about and want to see made. I’m sure if he didn’t like it at all he would’ve quit a long time ago. There’s so many rewrites on a script before it gets made. You’ll be stuck working on the same script for years
I don't care for defeatist "This will be norm." talking points, because for lots of thoughtful artists I don't think it will be, but I do think there is a time and place for AI to be a synthesiser of YOUR ideas and references, not bringing its own to the table, which it fails at miserably
Chatgpt specifically is useful for collating your thoughts and being a sounding board to help find clarity to your ideas, if I'm having conflicting thoughts about something I type them into chatgpt and it helps lay it out for me nicely, which takes out the bureaucratic work, but it doesn't make the decision and most of the time I disagree with the suggestions it tries to make, it's basically an agree bot that tries to find the path of least resistance to help the person using it (You) think that you are always right and come to the easiest conclusion
most people that make art naturally have largely boring commonly used ideas (someones gotta make up the numbers) and Chatgpt is no different, it provides base level insight and references and it doesn't put them together in any sort of sensually engaging magical way
So I use it sometimes and it's helpful for collating ideas but as a suppository of knowledge or creativity it sucks
I agree with everything you said.
