My ex is friends with Simi, (we split amicably). They're preparing a big celebration, without reason, for sept 31st (you didn't hear this from me)

DITF just isn't it imo. I still think its a good song, with some amazing melodies and ideas, but it didn't connected with any audience. I understand people citing Blinding Lights and Save Your Tears as sleeper hits, but most of us can agree those songs are pop gold and became recognized as such once they got the attention of the full mainstream.

I think there is something to be said about Popular, Creepin and One of the Girls being big hits for him, while the Dawn FM single and this song weren't. He's been more successful with the songs that aren't apart of his 80s synth pop sound, and I wouldn't be surprised if a song like Sao Paulo or Timeless ends up far out performing this one.

I'm just not hearing any of that man

Blinding Lights was s***ted on for months before it blew up, and many people called Save Your Tears one of the weaker tracks on After Hours and it took a year for that song to become huge.

Also, out of Creepin', Popular, and One of the Girls, only Creepin' was an instant hit. Both Popular and One of the Girls were slow burn hits just like most of his hits.

Dancing in the Flames has been out for 6 days, it's still way too early to judge its' commercial performance

Blinding Lights was hated on by the same dudes here that will hate on the Weeknd no matter what. I was there lmao it definitely was a hit with the average Weeknd fan, far more than DITF. I remember clearly people saying it was special very early on. And Save Your Tears was an album cut that blew up the moment he started promoting it as a single with the bridge performance and the music video. So I disagree with your point there.

And I wasn't saying those hits were instant. My point was that since After Hours, his overall fanbase (core and casual) has more appetite for non-synth pop cuts, which is why I was agreeing with the people saying Sao Paulo could be the bigger song.

    What was it?

Apple Vision Experience/Short Film: Late Sep - Early/Mid Oct

Hurry Up Tomorrow: Late Oct - Early Nov

which is basically what everyone else with more info has been saying, I wasn’t told tracklist info or album title. Only that they were finishing up the album and starting work on promo back in early March.

    This is not true.

Save Your Tears wasn’t released as a single until August 2020, and it didn’t climb back into the Top 50 of the Hot 100 until the chart dated January 23rd, 2021. Almost a year after its’ release.

The music video released on January 4th, 2021. It took four entire months for the song to re-enter the chart after being released as a single, and then another 3 weeks after the music video dropped to reach a high position. It was not “the moment he started promoting it as a single”

So I stated this back in March, March 5th to be exact.
