While My Dear Melancholy was released following The Weeknd's split from Selena Gomez, the singer says the project recorded before that was more upbeat and beautiful. "Prior to Melancholy, I had a whole album written, done, which wasn’t melancholy at all because it was a different time in my life," he told Time.

“It was very upbeat—it was beautiful," he added. But according to the singer, he got rid of the album because that stage of his life was over. "I don't want to perform something that I don't feel," he said. As for the project ever seeing the light of day, The Weeknd says fans will "never" hear it.

I don't think you've picked the best example with River, because that shows Leons level. And to me he is vocally more gifted than Abel. But if that is the direction for a project I think he should totally go for it. Artistically thats really interesting and it would be good to see a popular artist revisit soul and jazz in this manner.

Crazy how HOB was this dark but pop distorted rnb record and he went totally opposite with Thursday with an extremly dark rock influence sound.
He can do whatever he wants style wise lol i think with him is he does everything at a certain point so if hes happy he is gonna do a happy one lol

yea nah river isn’t a good comparison but Abels falsetto and Leon’s soul voice could mesh together in a really interesting way
