ThomForkHonestly there wasn't much hype bc it was the week after Christmas/New Year's.
But it doesn't help that the general R&B/hip-hop community gets so a*** over what kind of music they want an artist to make. The album was doing better than any other Weeknd album critically and would probably have done better without Twitter contrarians trying to make it seem like the album was trash.
Too many reviewers/reactors/YouTubers went in with low expectations bc of social media only to call the haters stupid af. But a regular person might not check it out bc of idiots online.
I don’t disagree with your points but I usually don’t expect reviewers/YouTube folk to drive charting like that, specially for the biggest stars. Maybe I just over estimated how big Abel is cause of Blinding Lights but idk

And yes, I know that Heartless debuted at #1 but that was a standalone single
