Genuine question…but how can he not have even 1 song debut in the top 10? Was there really no hype for this album in the general public?

I didn’t expect a top 5 debut but surely though Sacrifice or Out of Time would chart high ffs

Honestly there wasn't much hype bc it was the week after Christmas/New Year's.

But it doesn't help that the general R&B/hip-hop community gets so a*** over what kind of music they want an artist to make. The album was doing better than any other Weeknd album critically and would probably have done better without Twitter contrarians trying to make it seem like the album was trash.

Too many reviewers/reactors/YouTubers went in with low expectations bc of social media only to call the haters stupid af. But a regular person might not check it out bc of idiots online.

Exactly. There's no room for stations to pick up Take My Breath to be on the radio when he has his voice on 5 other songs (3 of them features) on the radio concurrently.

He also made a mistake uniting the hip hop community around Gunna. Like every major music outlet was posting weeknd vs gunna posts and ofc, it basically rallied them against the weeknd.

Then add a bunch of the weeknd fans getting snobby and attacking the album too on twitter, and it definitely didn't look great.

fr tho Dawn FM is the Weeknd's best album and it's gonna outlast Gunna's project in like a week. Pressed/pretentious hip-hop fans can go at it.

Who tf cares sm about sales man it’s a great album. Chart watching is fun but attributing it to album quality is pointless

Abel literally has been agreeing with you for weeks now and people are still making fools of themselves on here.

None of the songs on After Hours debuted within the Top 10 when the album dropped either. The highest charting one was In Your Eyes at #14.

And yes, I know that Heartless debuted at #1 but that was a standalone single
