I'd chalk it up to him being in a very vulnerable place that night after losing his voice and spending time with Anima, but ultimately then, falling back into the same toxic pattern of not wanting to be completely open and being very emotionally distant. This is definitely something that could've been conveyed better in the film, but that's how I interpreted it.

i think again, a clearer plot takes this from a 6 to an 8 at least
