Drake and Bieber have had very similar amount of overall streams in January 2022. Bieber has more monthly listeners because he has less people who spam his music and more people who listen to it casually. That's literally it. This is a metric to tell you who has a bigger reach but it doesn't equate to more streams because one person's fanbase could be more devoted and play the music more

This makes me wonder why AM is weighted so heavily over Spotify because Gunna is NOWHERE to be found on here

Didn't we discuss this in a different thread? This includes prerelease units from both albums pre release singles from Jan 1-6.
Gunna has past Weeknd as of this week though.

Well monthly listeners is global and I imagine the numbers OP posted are global too.

Gunna's probably getting 80%+ of his streams in the US

Because 90% of his streams come from the US if I had to guess. This takes into account every country. Apple music is only bigger than Spotify in the US as well

  • Jan 22, 2022

Imagine giving a s*** about sales or streaming numbers. Changes exactly 0 about the music

  • @OP @MalibuMorgan Here is US only for same week. gunna is pretty high up. Also note that this is streams for entire discography

because a lot of Spotify streams come from people on the free tier. the free streams are weighted less. can't remember the number equivalent but you need a lot more free Spotify streams to count as a sale compared to a paid one. by comparison there isn't a free version of Apple Music.

    1250 paid streams / 3750 free streams = 1 album unit.

I dont think "alot" of people on the free tier but yeah definitley part of it
