she majority of the the title track singing over a low filtered sample dawg what lol

Good Days and Low are 1000% R&B songs, the latter is just arguably over hip hop production, like most modern R&B is.

I already acknowledged the rock s*** but c'mon dawg.

Good Days can easily be argued as a pop song

A low filtered sample don’t make something a R&B record automatically lmao

If someone tell you to make an R&B playlist you’re including the SOS title track?

A straight up modern R&B album is something like Jaguar II by Victoria Monét.

The difference in tone between that album and SOS is night and day.

SOS blurs genre lines heavily but if I had to categorize it I would call it Alternative/Pop

Just checking in but seems obvious his album came and went right or am I just not culturally aware? Don’t see this new project lasting like his last few

It definitely didn’t come and go, it’s hugely popular among kids and teens

you're right about there being nothing to hate, not really possible for something bland to evoke such a strong emotion

    Tyler threads ALWAYS do numbers

  • cryforhell

Is Tyler not one of the most beloved rappers alive right now?

In the grand scheme of his career, that's only been the case RECENTLY!!

And even now that's sort of contentious.

  • Dec 24, 2024

Ya'll hate that T made it. was all good when it was just white tweens and easter basket clothes

At the end of the day, y’all just don’t like the fan base. If it was about the music, there’s next to nothing to hate aside from the songs where he sings (cause he’s not the best at that) I understand not liking Chroma like that but to say his music isn’t good at all is mad anti hip hop to me.

When it’s all said and done I think Tyler will go down as one of those artists that are more respected for their mind than their music

Never said his music wasn’t good btw I don’t know why this point keeps getting obfuscated. In fact, I said his production was good, his rapping voice is good and he is a solid rapper

These discussions are impossible because this forum is so polarized

flower boy and igor are pretty much undebatable classics

see you again, earfquake and wusyaname are hit records, all multi platinum with high hot 100 peaks

the man is about to go on his third arena tour in a row, which will surely sell out.

i’m always confused when people try to make it seem like tyler doesn’t have hits or isn’t a superstar. we have the data to prove it, there is no debate there.

no tyler isn’t going to dominate radio or certain mainstream audiences because his music is too left of center for that crowd. and that’s fine lol. the same could be said for a lot of legendary artists we praise every day.

i don’t think tyler is losing anything by producing his own music because it’s sonically good and widely revered. it might be a taste thing on your part but it’s pretty unanimous that this is the version of tyler that people love.

i understand that some artists like cole hit an even better stride when they become more open to collaboration with other producers, but it’s not a one size fits all

“you can’t get a tpab or mbdtf by self producing”

kanye produced all but one song on that album first off, and second off, i implore you to listen to some outkast, tribe, prince, marvin gaye, d’angelo etc. you can absolutely make that level album by self producing. and that’s not mentioning that most people put flower boy and igor in that tier anyways.

Overall this is just OP not enjoying his music to the same degree as the popular consensus does

and trying to rationalize it as everybody is tripping as opposed to maybe it just doesn’t click with him as much

Hate this type of thread, where you have to defend why you like an artist. I get it, you don't feel him. Like him or don't like him, I don't care either way.

I fw you but this paragraph isn't 100% facts tbh fam

Kanye had multiple producers on every MBDTF track, Bink & S1 led the beats for DIAND & Power, also bear in mind that he made it in a setting where he brought loads of musicians with him to his hawaii sessions etc etc

Tribe had two producers (one who was solely a producer) in the group & then Dilla & others in the Ummah helped on the last two 90s albums

OutKast had Organized Noize & Mr DJ

D'Angelo, Prince, Stevie are different but they still had world class musicians in the studio with them & Tyler's musical know how isn't on a D'Angelo/Stevie/Prince level

The two guys from TONTO (Cecil & Bob) helped Stevie with synth stuff, plus he had a grip of musicians on SITK & there are 12 Stevie albums with producers before his first self produced album (WICF)

Prince is the most creative individual musician ever so we can't compare Tyler to him

Folks aren't saying Tyler shouldn't lead his own projects but perhaps he needs more outside assistance. Folks thought he was using stock FL horn sounds because how average he makes them sound yet it was just him directing the live players in a somewhat generic way
