Thought of this kid immediately. Unfortunately as many of you know this is a far reaching meme, not just this c**
so many people were saying "nahh let this kid just have his fun lol!" but this video rubbed me the wrong way from the jump

Damn she's bad
I think there have been times when the U.S. has sent a bunch of aid to Africa that may have boosted their view in multiple countries,
plus, since we have a much more organized (albeit often evil and predatory) economic system in the U.S., it enables ppl to work here and send money back home, thus creating the perspective that America is plentiful
But i mean if you live anywhere you'll most likely be in tune to that countries issues more than ones u don't live in, so the average person might only hear a few things about another nation or country every now and then if ever
Most of the money that goes to Africa comes from immigrants who left the continent and send money back to their families (the total number surpasses to total of donations made by strangers through charities)
I’ll never forget when some white kid saw me listening to D’Angelo and said “bruh what the f*** are u listening to? I needa get u hip to this new lil baby”

True, my relatives only get gifts when my Dad visits them so in their mind America=gifts. Never-mind the fact that we had to wageslave for them
Are there any africans in this thread, I'd like to ask you a question if it is possible.
Yes
Most of the money that goes to Africa comes from immigrants who left the continent and send money back to their families (the total number surpasses to total of donations made by strangers through charities)
oh yeah of course, thats at least what i was trying to say:
the idea that ppl go to america to work and send money back home, makes it seem as though america is very profitable
so many people were saying "nahh let this kid just have his fun lol!" but this video rubbed me the wrong way from the jump
Someone said the word patronizing before.
Extremely accurate.
Yeah I don’t think they realize how rampant racism and oppression is still here.
Generally American culture is so ingrained in our forms of entertainment. I remember growing up and we all wanted to be like american rappers.
Even today a lot of satellite TV is filled with a lot of American channels/programmes, you don't really get exposed to a lot of the systemic issues in the states unless you go out of your way to seek and watch something educational
When people call it a phase it makes me think of a couple things:
Since hip-hop and black culture are intertwined, it's kind of alluding to the cultural aspects that hip-hop elevates and puts forth as "only a phase" or a marginal thing, when it is a big part of culture and they feed off each other. A lot of hip-hop details a wider black experience as well as specific ones
So if a white person just one day feels like they're going to "drop it" and move on to something else, it's like oh you used this culture and pretended like you cared but you have the choice to leave the participation in it. Because they're not inherently in the culture itself often times
More famous examples: Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry,
having these rap feature phases, especially Miley Cyrus kinda used it as a "rebellious phase" and then dropped it and denounced her association with hip-hop in different words,
Like just appropriating the culture,
hip-hop is much more than just a couple songs on the radio and i think theres even enough info in this thread to enlighten u unless people just been yelling at u i haven't seen the whole thing
Or like the stereotypical idea of frat boys playing migos and the popular "trap" type songs at parties just because its essentially the van halen and other hyped up rock n roll of the 80's, in the 21st century.
They love to play the music, because it's energizing, and a lot of them probably think they can say the n-word cause they like the music, but they participate in many anti-black views and behavior which negates the whole "but i have a black friend/I love hiphop/i love black athletes" response thats weak as f***
I gotcha. I definitely see celebrities using black culture as their toys to run around with which is unbeliever f***ed up and should get called out for it. Especially Miley Cyrus where it was so blatantly artificial and she really just made a mockery of black culture in hindsight.
Follow up question I have, is hip hop not really allowed to be digested as just another music genre? Me personally I’m very into the inner workings of music so with any genre I try to do my research with it, but with someone who is nothing more than a causal listener of music, are they not allowed to treat hip hop as just another genre of music they’re listening to?

yeah i mean even the fact that we're talking about Africa as just one unit and not specific countries when it's more than 50 is kinda bad imo because the climates, governments, economic structures, armed conflicts all dictate perspectives i don't think its good to say "africans think this ___" when theres so much to it, even if its a popular view
Yes
I am Libyan North African but my family has had signifact west african influence, so we can pass as mixed race or almost even as Ethiopians.
1. Would you consider north africans as part of africa or do you see them as a different continent.
2. Do you agree with me that putting North Africans alongside europeans in the ''white'' category in the US census forms is rather insulting, as the majority of us do not resemble white people, and we also face discrimination in europe and america.

That’s even a problem in America sad to say

Yeah, I'm from Kenya and we still have tribalism. That's why as much as i love the idea of Pan africanism I think we have a long way to go.
Yams was so fair skin tho

It's complicated
I mean, especially with the discourse in the United States considering the black community, the role music plays in it and vice versa... Those are inextricably connected, at least here,
It's impossible to hold everyone to this intellectual standard of realizing the inner-workings of all the music they've ever listened to but I'm more talking about the consistent consumers of hip-hop that end up having anti-black, or other views that conflict
It's made even more complicated when destructive, or ignorant behavior is glorified, it's like people get off on watching black folks be a trainwreck, idk
oh yeah of course, thats at least what i was trying to say:

It is, because those who go from Africa to anywhere don't get there by chance: the immigration process is tideous not to mention the money required to get there.
The usa is very picky with whom they let in, the take the best out of developing countries (draining them essentially) and voila
Either way, all immigrants have a chip on their shoulder when they've made it out of war/poverty/persecution and still came to the west (Europe/us/Canada) and "" pulled themselves up by their bootstraps""(you'd be surprised to know how many are right wingers)
@Scratchin_Bandit get ITT, quality discussion happening

I think accessibility to education makes a huge difference in the states, most young kids might not have the same access in most African countries.
I was watching the news with my mum and she was shocked that Americans were tearing down Columbus statues, apparently when they were younger in school they'd sing about how 'Columbus was a great man'
most people in Europe were enslaved to, in fact some ethnic groups in europe were enslaved more in western society then black people have and thus can empathize with them
do you think there isn't any correlation between the word Slav and slave
but yes f*** racism
That Europeans have been enslaved doesn't mean there isn't any racism going on today in Europe lol cause there's plenty. It's just more towards muslims/middle eastern people at least the part of Europe where i'm from

Yo all she did was really just make fun of Black culture now that you mention it. So f***ing gross.
Wasn’t Taylor Snake also on the same vibe after having collabed with Kenny?
