problem with Africans is that they unironically believe in the american dream. Didn't take me long to realize it was bs.

    Nah, that's a ignorant portion
Many Africans welcome back African Americans to the motherland or want better for y'all over here
There are cultural barriers as they often are immigrants and don't agree with some of the western practices (dress, music, behavior etc) + some only know what the media portrayed y'all as but are definitely aware of how effed up the us is towards y'all (unless they coons)

Yeah I don’t think they realize how rampant racism and oppression is still here.

    The promotion of financial irresponsibility

YES OP! This is basically the problem in its simplest terms.

But I’d argue the white executives are more responsible than the fans because these executives give these rappers a platform to act irresponsibly and absolutely leave it up to them completely to invest or f*** their money up.

Yes but to be fair it is on both sides
African Americans are guilty of playing into the stereotype that all of africa is poor and that they don't have phones etc

from a conscious perspective there will always be a racist element to white people supporting black celebrities who are not fully self-actualized and have a platform whose values reflect that

never understood why people don't get called out for racism when they make correlations between uzi/thug/future songs to ancient philosophers and religious beliefs for the sake of comedic irony and retweets

Do you find racial undertones in those kind of jokes?

They legit don't. When i revisited i was talking to an older relative and he asked me how bad racism was in the US. He only asked because he met a US woman who moved because she said she couldn't stand the racism anymore.

Genuine question, why is this a problem?

When people call it a phase it makes me think of a couple things:

Since hip-hop and black culture are intertwined, it's kind of alluding to the cultural aspects that hip-hop elevates and puts forth as "only a phase" or a marginal thing, when it is a big part of culture and they feed off each other. A lot of hip-hop details a wider black experience as well as specific ones

So if a white person just one day feels like they're going to "drop it" and move on to something else, it's like oh you used this culture and pretended like you cared but you have the choice to leave the participation in it. Because they're not inherently in the culture itself often times

More famous examples: Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry,

having these rap feature phases, especially Miley Cyrus kinda used it as a "rebellious phase" and then dropped it and denounced her association with hip-hop in different words,

    Like just appropriating the culture,

hip-hop is much more than just a couple songs on the radio and i think theres even enough info in this thread to enlighten u unless people just been yelling at u i haven't seen the whole thing

Or like the stereotypical idea of frat boys playing migos and the popular "trap" type songs at parties just because its essentially the van halen and other hyped up rock n roll of the 80's, in the 21st century.

They love to play the music, because it's energizing, and a lot of them probably think they can say the n-word cause they like the music, but they participate in many anti-black views and behavior which negates the whole "but i have a black friend/I love hiphop/i love black athletes" response thats weak as f***

@02Shaq I’m a huge Young Thug fan, and I have been since 2014. This is partly because he defies the conventional alphabet/vowel system.

There are some “elite” fans (black and white) who didn’t (and still don’t) understand his artistic creative ability because its so eclectic.

Remember after we were colonized our language was taken from us and we were indoctrinated into the current 36 letter alphabet system.

Gone were our vibrant chants, rolling of our tongue, humming and in was the vowels

I think there have been times when the U.S. has sent a bunch of aid to Africa that may have boosted their view in multiple countries,

plus, since we have a much more organized (albeit often evil and predatory) economic system in the U.S., it enables ppl to work here and send money back home, thus creating the perspective that America is plentiful

But i mean if you live anywhere you'll most likely be in tune to that countries issues more than ones u don't live in, so the average person might only hear a few things about another nation or country every now and then if ever

Yeah I don’t think they realize how rampant racism and oppression is still here.

To be fair, some African Americans (academics, writers, economists, politicians, public figures) deny that Systematic Racism is even a thing
Not knowing about it is one thing, rationalizing the fact that it doesn't exist is another.
