Just want to throw it out there — I know a lot of mfers talkin about firing Bill. S*** is laughable to me, and would be laughable even if we lost every single game for the rest of the season (which we won’t).

He’s the goat coach. He’s done a horrible job of GMing the last decade, but he’s even had great stretches as a GM too. Imagine giving that up, for some random young unproven bozo who has like a 25% chance of sticking as an NFL coach (don’t know what the actual percentage of first time NFL coaches that stay with their team for more than 5 years is, but it can’t be good).

Yeah, I am not a fan of firing Bill. By all means, strip him of his GM and personnel privileges, but the group of people who think he suddenly forgot to coach are blinded by disappointment. We will regret it if Bill is fired.

Side note: the Patriots offensive scheme is outdated. I know a lot of people thought Bill O’Brien would magically fix this offense, but in some ways it’s worse than last year. I think Bill had the right idea to try and incorporate the McVay system. He just chose the wrong people to do it.

I think bill should step down as a GM but no one here can deny that he does have a favorable record of picking defensive players. He just can’t pick a quality offensive player if his life depended on it

People gotta be careful what they wish for when it comes to coaching. Very few elite ones on planet earth. We could very easily end up being one of those teams with like 5 different coaches over a decade

I think at this point it’s in our best interest to strip him of GM duties (aside from defense) and keep him as HC.

The whole situation could end up being volatile though if he doesn’t take it well

That last sentence is key — I don’t think he would take it well, and I feel like I’ve heard him say as much on multiple occasions throughout the years. He feels strongly that you need to be GM to be able to do a good job as coach.

Not sure if the possibility of losing his job as coach here would change his mind though.

Not really sure how the hell we become a contending team all of the sudden next year. 9-8 should be expected. Unfortunately, we just absolutely need to demolish the offense and completely rebuild it again. It’s going to set us back to where we were 2020 or 2021.
In fact, if we truly want to contend again, it’s probably for the best if we trade back in the draft to acquire as many future 1st/2nd rounders as possible, because it’s EVERY single position on offense that we need multiple quality players at and one single high first rounder is no where near enough to get it done.

With the obvious caveat that if we get a top 5 pick and we TRULY feel with 80-90% certainty that there’s a future multi-year all pro QB on the board, obviously that’s the one exception.
