Pretty sure DC took a risk by releasing this on HBO Max in the first place. I doubt "heads will roll" 'cause they're aware of all the circumstances. Nobody is going to buy a ticket for a DC movie especially when we're pretty much back to square one in a pandemic and they can watch in HD quality from the comfort of their home at no extra cost
Also "blah blah" at a pandemic is nuts
The website I got the tweet from has been hating on the movie hard
comicbookmovie.com/suicide_squad/the_suicide_squad/the-suicide-squad-disappoints-with-265-million-debuta-result-made-worse-by-185-million-budget-a187054#gs.7xlii7
Says the franchise is DOA
I thought it was alright, my main complaint is Harley tbh
The whole point of the movie is to feel like anything can happen to these guys, it’s high risk little reward. But we all know Harley is the darling of WB so it’s like...she’s just casually walking thru gunfire and can do whatever and it doesn’t feel risky at all
Meanwhile they just make up side characters to obliterate them and create this false sense of high stakes but you can tell right away who isn’t going anywhere
GoTGv1-2 are movies where both times I saw them in theaters, I left feeling like it wasn’t worth the price of the ticket tbh. Always felt like I should’ve waited for it to come on Netflix or something at the time.

this probably why i almost fell asleep during her big scene
Change again?
Part of me feels like HBO Max could’ve handled the simultaneous release differently
Like not through a paywall, but maybe similar to what Uni did
2 week theatrical exclusive, then simultaneous on HBO for a month, then PVOD, etc.
Feel like that wouldn’t have hurt each films box office while only making people who want to stream wait 2 weeks
He nails a specific tone and shifts it appropriately. Having more serious modern characters interact with kooky silver age ones and making that work is difficult. You have to be willing to ride a certain wavelength to connect with this fully.
you gonna complain about them setting up for a spinoff (for a character not even remotely worthy of one) or does that only apply when its marvel?
Filmmakers at DC never again getting free reign to make their own movie, going right back to the 2016 producer meddling era

I don’t recall DC making every single one of their products essentially an ad for another one. They also can get away with doing this occasionally when the films are actually directed by human beings and not an algorithm Kevin Feige made in a lab. This Peacemaker show seems infinitely more interesting than Flacon & Winter Soldier. If you want me to be consistent about not spreading your IP’s thin than sure, I don’t think it’s generally a good idea to make everything set up.
This man hasn’t done anything worthwhile outside of Deadpool, he shouldn’t speak on this

Warner has to know this has nothing to do with directorial vision and more to do with how covid has effected blockbusters. Do you think Disney is not gonna make movies with female leads anymore because Black Widow didn’t make as much as they wanted.

Knew you'd be willing to do the gymnastics
Please tell me how Peacemaker is a complex enough character for his own show (and no I didn't like Falcon and Winter Soldier so you can't throw that at me)

Damn harsh

Black widow was a throw away cash grab, they knew that going in, and made way more money than suicide squad will without even counting the gross Disney plus 30$ tickets.
Besides they made a Billy off captain marvel
And this is Warner we re talking about, they re not that bright as evidenced by their past reaction based decision making. Birds of prey and wonderwoman 84 were more hands off as well and they made less money than the interfered with movies that came before it. Better reviews worse boxoffice means more interference for dumbass money hungry executives
Hope they don't hack Flash Point to bits over this like the og suicide squad lol

He’s not a complex character, it’s just a silly idea to center a show around someone like him. Gunn can go full Troma when making a wacky side show with John Cena. It’s not gymnastics because generally I’m still against the practice but have always found some things done in this way more interesting than others. I like Mandalorian so I don’t have some anti Disney bias.

well for one exploring what makes peacemaker so tick and obedient to his mission for one
You can make a show on just about anything really

WB = dumb
I didn't say it was as good but it's not alot of War comedy style films out there.
I get you didn't like it b and that's ok

We already saw it was whatever version of "liberty" he felt like at the time
