You dont know what a household name is
You dont know what a household name is
You are dorkily arguing semantics. Ask anybody over 35 if they know who these artists are

The fact that youre not aware how ridiculous this statement is
You dont know what a household name is
you told me to ask an llm earlier.
you ask it if he was and it will tell you yes lol
Explain it to me
I don't even need to. If you truly think so, good on you.

Okay
YASIIN BEY
Think a lot of people are just missing the fact that this stuff came on everybody’s tv or radio at the same time. You couldn’t just not know about Mos Def lol
This is lowkey the biggest reason for all of the changes in rap music since 2010-2016
Really even going back as far as 2007-2008 when YouTube started probably being people’s main form of visual media consumption over cable. I remember lowkey even not watching 106 like that after 08-09
1. Hip-hop was a niche genre until the mid-90s when it started to have somgs regularly chart on the Billboard 100
2. We had popular rappers chart on the Hot 100 from the late 80s to the mid-90s but they weren't recurring fixtures until mid90s to 2000s
3. Having a song debut at (even) number 1 on the Hot 100 doesn't make you a household name, doing that consistently does. Is f***ing Roddy Rich a household name.
If you think any of the above is wrong, Google it or type it into your LLM.
What if its both true that Pac Snoop and BIG / then Em X and Jay / 50 Wayne Ye etc took s*** to a different level but they wouldnt have even been able to do that if not for the work of LL Slick Rick NWA Run DMC etc. If LL DMC etc didn't happen to establish rap as a solid "thing" then you'd be saying what you're saying about them, about Pac and BIG/East West beef lol
We can do this with anything
Batman (1989) took s*** to a different level and later the MCU took s*** to an astronomical level but Superman movie from the 70’s had to set the precedent and was probably a big f***in deal in its time
Media as a whole in every medium exploded in every direction at a crazy pace going from the mid 80's into the late 2000's
hearing him talk about Drake being mall music is funny watching this
Child support payments had to get paid somehow.
This why I be mad at Drake sometimes cause he coulda just reposted this commercial as a response smmfh
I hate arguing with y'all niggas man
Definitely need a hand pic the way you talking bout hip hop or kys

I need love made him a household star. He was a pop star off that
I need love made him a household star. He was a pop star off that
i mean it did well for a hip hop track at the time but outside of the hip hop bubble he wasn't a household name.
his 90s-2000's run transioning into acting and hip hop itself becoming bigger is what made him a household name.
