Interesting take, What do you mean specifically

He was heavily featured and involved in it and Dave was/is a good friend of his. The way that whole s*** went down and Dave was made to look like he "went crazy" was a pretty huge and polarizing example of "the evils of Hollywood" in the culture at that time. I have no doubt they both had extensive discussions about it and it made Mos more distant in every facet of "the industry".

If I was a rapper and got even one or two big checks I'm buying gas stations and s*** before chains and cars lol

    Sounds like you’re describing akon

  • lilbiglil

He definitely had a dedicated fated fanbase and got press but he wasn’t a big star. Vince Staples is probably a decent modern a***ogy in terms of level of celebrity.

I can’t argue because I wasn’t around, but during his peak from I learned, mos def seemed much bigger than Vince lmao. I could be wrong tho

Also kinda unrelated to anything Mos Def but is it crazy for me to say Vince the personality is bigger than Vince the artist?

there is no way in hell vince staples was comparatively as popular as mos def

That’s a very hot take. I don’t agree but to each his own.

  • If there were a billion podcasts & online twitch streaming etc in mos’ popularity peak, he probably woulda been on a lot of them.

It definitely is. There are people on Twitter who LOVE Vince when it comes to him as a personality but have never spoken about liking his music lol.

I think he was definitely more popular to be honest. Not a knock on Vince Staples, but a very different time in media.

  • THE WHAT OVER ?

  • Broscodolo

Dude this is so weird I was just thinking last night about how Mos Def was so f***ing famous at one point while being extremely outspoken and radical in his music.

    Such an anomaly.

Like everybody loved Mos Def fr

    Different time fr

Like imagine f***in Armand Hammer or something being all in the movies and on TV rn 🤣

Nigga was making movies with MJ s***s crazy

  • Real controversial title tho

Lmao wait what they complaining about

  • YoungNastyShawty

I wish I was old enough to experience how famous he was at his height cause it’s mind blowing to think some of the stuff he was saying would even be allowed lmaooo.

I remember Mos being EVERYWHERE when i was a kid

  • YoungNastyShawty

Lmao wait what they complaining about

I saw some apparently black kid literally say on twitter "black ppl overestimate how many allies we have when s*** get real we on our own" like theres so many issues with that perspective

We dont need no other race to help us

    White people divided asf

Nobody who knows history is trusting rich white ppl to save them

Very wrong. People knew knew Mos from Chappelle, Ye, The Italian Job, Hitchhikers guide, monsters ball…he was also like the face of conscious hip hop. Vince will prolly never be as recognized as Mos

Shoutout Vince but Mos Def has 2 Emmys and 23 Nominations bro was different lol

Vince never been on a Disney Cartoon

They used to roll the TV in class and play something the Lord Made whenever we didn’t have s*** to do at school
