If the Rex Mills thing turns out to be promo for Jeymes' new s***, and I think it is, then that probably means new Jay without the commercial constraints. His verses on Jeymes' projects are stellar.
niggas sayin Hov smoked Elect on this record never listened to Act I, Letter to Falon, dear moleskin, etc. All those soundcloud and youtube loosies. Their main points of reference are Control and Exhibit A/C

I don’t get how that should affect their opinion on how he performed on this record. He doesn’t rap as well (other than Falon) as he did on either half of the songs you laid out
It’s just pure fate that Jay dropped an album in these times. A Written Testimony will be remembered so much more importantly as years go on, time will be very kind to this project.
The Overwhelming Event sends straight chills..

This dude Jay Elec seemingly always appears at the right moment like a character out of a book

Prophet IRL
And the lows?
Been on KTT1 but never on this. How did u feel about this one? U waited for a long time.

it doesn't affect their opinion on how they thought he rapped on the record. it affects their expectations of who he is as a rapper, and people listen to albums with certain expectations.
I felt, and still feel, people were too hard on Jay Elect's performance. But hey, everyone got their opinions
Just bumped this again this morning..
Damn, what a project man. HOV w/ the assist is so legendary.

Not exactly thrilled by it. Has some great moments but is counterbalanced by other low moments. Combine this with it being rather likely that Jay is being disingenuous regarding the 40 day thing as well as Shiny Suit Theory being arguably the best track on the album makes it disappointing to me.
I honestly haven't listened to it in 5-6 weeks.
For what this album is its dope. For it not being Act 2 its upsetting. I think people who waited on Act 2 know that this sonically isn't what anyone expected. I guess this is just who Jay Electronica is as a person now though. He's more intune with his NOI stuff now, he wanted to make something with a message that explains the stuff he likes and is about and I think he did just that.
If I can get over the fact that this isn't Act 2 or 3 or anything remotely in the lane of what he hyped his three act structure based on the Prestige to be then this is good music.
I think the problem is when you really know his older stuff and what he's not only been capable of but just what he said he would deliver, this doesn't feel like it. This feels too streamlined to deliver the one Islamic prophetic punchline but its not really telling me all that much about him.
I would've loved the whole Extended Control on this album alongside APIDTA. Both reference and talk about his family and also go deeper into his struggles. Instead we get some one liners about d**** he did for prose for creativity, but nothing as deep into himself like Dear Moleskine. We don't get the Better Intune Juxtaposed with the release of this album and criticism he would get.
To be honest I feel like he has a better collection of songs you could mix with some of these songs and have a better project about Jay Electronica.
Its Ironic he set the bar so high for himself that even something thats better than 90% of whats out right now is hard to be praised well.
But we're past it now. I want the Just Blaze Exhibits tape. I want the Golgotha track, I want the Sometimes full track with Jay's lyrics. I want the Jeymes cut of Act 2 too if its out there.
Honest to Hova, I swear this project coming out like this is his doing. I think its clear when Jay E says "He's loyal to Elijah just like Eric was to Godric". He will always be Jay Z confidant and brother. I think he trusted him too much with this one.
Drop Into the Light and let's hope we at least get another og Act 2 song like 10,000 Lotus Petals.
I haven't touched this album since the 1st week of its release
I implore you to go back
What're y'all top 3 on this album?
I got:
Flux Capacitor
Spirits of The Fruit
Universal Soldier
in no order
Ghost of soulja slim
Fruits of the spirit

Hov included Young Gifted & Black in the playlist - not a well known song from his discog, bet Elec suggested it.
Remember this

First time Hov did that live. Was there

Did he ever address why he didn’t credit jay z as a feature, would’ve actually boosted traction and sales
