Movie is decent for what it is, but not really a good adaptation of the book. Too much character development has been lost in all the dialogue and moments cut to fit the story into 2 hours. It got to the point that I really didn’t feel what I imagine I’m supposed to when more important characters inevitably bite the dust.

Olson and Stebbins are probably the biggest victims of this as two of the most important characters in the book. The movie reduces both of them to total blank slates and omits their arcs. They start with Olson and his jelly legs then he disappears from the movie until he’s brought back to be killed. Neither of their death scenes hit as hard as they should

Didn’t feel like McVries was well developed enough to justify him being the new winner, but to be fair I also couldn’t understand like 25% of his dialogue due to the poor sound mixing and the actor’s disastrous American accent that he couldn’t seem to stay in for more than 30 seconds at a time. Him killing the major was also stupid and killed some of the original ending’s subtlety

On the subject of the major Mark Hamill was way too over the top in this and it almost felt like he was from a different movie

It was ok. Read the book if you liked the movie it’s a lot better

They f***ed the ending. King wrote a great ending and they changed it for no reason. Something was off too about rays character. Could have just been how the actor was delivering the lines.

Damn this s*** was really f***ing good I had a lotta fun wit it. I never read the book but kind of predictable in what happens but still enjoyed it nonetheless.

I read 1 secret to having dialogue heavy scenes be interesting is making the characters do something active like working out or moving rather than sitting down and that definitely worked here cus essentially the characters are talking the entire time but the idea of anyone can get killed looms in the background

  • Sep 16, 2025

Also Cooper and David absolutely killed it and the other cast mates

I mean yeah kinda? But the thing is, there really isn’t much to it plot wise: walk or get killed. So you already know what to expect. You could say movies like Speed was inspired by the books premise.

But the actual story with the friendship and the themes is the actual meat of the film. And also the reasoning for why some of the characters are doing it.
