i enjoyed how restrained it was -- felt very focused for the most part, but then the strangeness felt weakened because it wouldn't commit to the possibilities it was trying to set up. sure that creates the alluring "ambiguity" of films like this, but this seemed like ambiguity for the sake of entertainment only, which means there isn't really a whole lot to think about regarding whatever the viewer finds ambiguous.

If anything i'm just really amazed by Dafoe in this. I know the Oscars only appreciate true ~folme~ so they may try to overlook this, but he's gonna need that Oscar fam
