Shes knows as soon as he lies, shes just young and willing to lie to herself for whatever shred of happiness she can get out of this terrible world. Its the growing up that eats at her over time. Could be a million different ways she gets it out of joel but she always has basically known. Its less about her knowing the truth finally but her letting joel know she knows.

Can definitely see that but what I was having a hard time believing was how Ellie viewed Joel lying in that instance to be so egregious considering the setup (they don’t know when Eugene would turn).

But thank you for engaging in good faith. Ellie definitely seems to be looking past Joel’s actions, I just wish it had been for something more egregious.

imo the straw that really broke ellie's back is not just that joel lied. he was right to not let an infected get close to their safety it was that joel prevented eugene and gail getting that last moment of healing before he goes. with joel trying to be so try hard as a father figure to ellie she knows the feelings cant be fully realized until the healing process begins. she doesnt want joel or her to die with this lie between them. the healing can only begin after he admits what he did. now ellie is so hell bent on revenge because abby took that healing away from them right after they made it through the hardest part of dealing with the lie....
