i think the biggest mistakes of this season are the areas it changes things from the game

strongest aspect of season one were the depictions of iconic moments from the game. i like when they expand like the bill episode or the isaac background, but this season is veering from the game version of ellie and its so much worse for it

first season seemed like it benefitted from the actors not playing the game, this season feels worse for it

nothing against bella but i don't think she is capturing ellie anymore, she doesnt seem to have the range

The subreddit for the game is miserable but i hate to agree with them in Bella Ramsay not doing a great job. I thought she was good for the first season but they should have recast her for this version of post time skip Ellie. Really just doesn’t feel like she has the range to play this as serious as it needs to be. She’s good at the goofball kid kinda role but the direction of the game changes dramatically and it’s not convincing with her.

From the clips ive seen i can sorta understand this. She's an adult, but she unfortunately still looks and sounds kinda like a kid, and its a little difficult to get past that lol. Though thats not entirely the fualt of her skills as a actress

having played and finished the games just before the show's premiere, I was a big supporter of season 1 - even if by the end I was kind of unsure if I truly enjoyed it or was just content it was more faithful than most adaptations

But this season... idk man. I understand that the games and the show are two separate entities but I think using that as an excuse to deviate from what made the source so compelling in the first place is a big misstep. Why not just make an original story set in the TLoU world then?

I won't go on a tangent, but the casting is showing its limitations and its further highlighted by the abysmal writing.

A combination of thoughts, this week’s episode and podcast just leaves me with the conclusion that the tone feels off around Ellie’s character and her journey. It also doesn’t help that I saw a video comparing the scene around the map (added laugh tracks to drive the point more) with that particular segment coming off as Hannah Montana in the show.

Like if Ellie was 30 in Part 2 it would be a different story but come on.

I do think some of the changes from game to TV have been worse off (like Ellie's reaction to Dina being pregnant), but i have come to accept that this is a different interpretation of the story.

If I wanted to watch the same exact story beat for beat I would go play the f***ing game.

But yeah this has been like a 7.5/10 so far.
