Joel lying hits way harder in the show than the game forsure

its Game for me by far but that is my first experience with it, mocap faces lie and they lie to each other less in the game. I have seen Pedro in other things. I have never seen Joel in anything nor does Troy Baker sound the same each time he did a role so it was all fresh. The lie even though he killed people all game obviously much more than in the show was a Shadow of Colossus feel with these final Fireflies , Marlene and Doctor with scapel kills. It was if they were saying to the player " you brought him to do this isn't this what you wanted you were looking for the cure and the typical happy ending so you could move on and beat another game but these characters became this bonded by this journey that you are controlling him do this "

That is just my game design brain interpretation though. throughout the game many harsher or more brutal kills were handled and rendered in cut scenes versus gameplay was typical ps3 rendered goons. These final ones besides Marlene being gameplay were something different feeling

Welll it’s kinda weird cause the infected in the show is like barely present and they even added an entire hive mind thing which was never used again, it’s easier to be like yeah i understand joel seeing less worth in it, but at the same time seeing pedro go through with the act & then lying to someone SMART like ellie AND a more emotional joel as a human all i’m thinking about is guilt because she still didn’t get her choice.

Game doesn’t make me capture the same guilt i see live action actors portray, cutscenes are really good but you’re wayyy more naive to the character you control and love and leveled up and i think ellie is way smarter here than the game

Her AI was dumb as f*** in 2013 but in cutscenes she was also smart. I definitely didn't see Pedro as more emotional. yes he had tommy scene, sarah flashbacks and suicide mention but that mocap and facial reactions . I think the story would have been cleaner if fireflies gave Ellie a choice. If he had to live with the fact that the terrorist gave her a choice and he didn't.

The show didn't make me feel much beyond "well this is f***ed up and dark"

Game had me neck deep in the feels by the time the credits rolled. I appreciate the work put into the show but it doesn't come close to the original on a cinematic, writing or emotional level for me.

I think of some ways they could have made it a lil more but there simply was only so much time on the clock . Its nearly like being beholden to the game story in their case was a gift and a curse

Game 2 also touches on religion. In fact in gaming and tv I can't really think of a recent character who was religious and not deeply hypocritical villain

I am not even saying view favorably. I am saying write them as complex characters more than good and evil. I am not even arguing for Preacher or religious representation. I am simply saying I get what he means

I don't care that Joel died just don't think Abby or her side characters were all that interesting. Yara and Lev cool hope they get more time in the show. Isaac definitely needs more character. As do the seraphites to make me give a f\*\*\* about any of the factions. Ellie is insufferable the majority of the game. The central theme about forgiveness and grief I like that its going for its just a lot that doesnt work for me
