It feels like there wasn’t that much care beyond surface level stuff
I also felt like I was watching actors on a set and not characters in a situation
can you elaborate on your opinion perhaps in one paragraph so I get it
It is a good show.
But you cannot act like it measures up to the game.
I’m not saying it needs to.
But it feels sanitized..? Safe? Which isn’t ever felt in either game.
I understand it’s literally a TV show on a major network. But considering it’s HBO, I was expecting… more of everything?
Not infected. Or ‘action’. More character development. More time with them. The same mature attitude towards the subject matter. The show was VERY PG-13, from the level of tension, to the way it treated certain moments.
It is a good show. It’s also flawed. All I can hope for is that they double down hard next season on everything in the show.
Oh you thought Finale wasn't top 3 ?
fleshing that out at all here risks what they clearly want to be a twist in part 2 being spoiled completely for people
I honestly think they still could have fleshed out the ending and still have a plot twist.
That plot twist is built on the 2nd game being made 6-7 years after the first one dropped lol.
A lot of people had a "huh" reaction to a random npc character being killed and their family wants revenge
I love how this kind of changes the dynamic between Joel and Ellie.
When she said "it can't all be for nothing" you could tell that she was prepared to give her life up for the sake of humanity, and Joel, dealing with his attachment issues, was not ready to lose again, so he took away that decision from Ellie. Now their relationship is basically tethered by a lie and it might be a matter of time until Ellie starts to question their dynamic.
Non-gamer's perspective on the finale.
you really think she was ready too die in the "it can't all be for nothing" even while mentioning their future together?
I get seeing that I am just curious if for some they could have made that more clear
They kind of rushed through that hospital scene and played the last of us theme (even if it was meant to be a sad version ) so loud that you don't really hear the humans. One person in this thread even called it "Epic". When their goal was that the scene was sad. They really had a chance to execute a sad necessary violence scene where Joel kind of struggles. Yet to ME personally it came off as terminator, jack bauer and at times even comical to see a man we barely saw kill all season catch like 20 something bodies
LOL. it was super easy to suspend disbelief while watching, but when you think about how bro was legit on deathbed not but no more than a week earlier, it is hilarious to think bro legit took a % point off the population the last two episodes.
they maybe just maybe should have given us some BS week time lapse just to make it a tad more believable that he was back up to speed because yea... guy legit went psycho. the episode before it was easy to believe it was just adrenaline pushing him but this episode, was super hero s*** as you mentioned
Very good ep. Only 2 complaints were during the massacre, I didn't really like the choice of music, and showing the Doctor dead for like 5 secs was......
Their goal with the music choice was sad music
Is there anything you think game did better story wise ?
i think i preferred sam and henrys story in the game i missed sam just wanting to be a kid sometimes but henry pushing him to be what he had to be in his mind, the slight resentment henry had towards sam or at least sam feeling that way and the serious conflict joel and henry had sometimes and not just slight disagreements about a not very well thought out plan
outside of that i think the story changes did nothing but add without ever taking away it felt like someone who loves their work getting a chance to expand on all the bread crumbs they sprinkled through the game but never got a chance to expand on 10 years ago
my overall biggest problem seems to be the same as everyone else i felt like there were a few pacing issues and a lack of overall threat the biggest offender for pacing was the david episode i know nobody wants to get stuck in the walking dead trap of dragging a plot out for way too long but i really think we could have spent more time with joel there for the ellie and joel reunion to really hit hard
and the threat thing was probably best shown when they got to the university just let them fight a couple more guys man im not dying for action but cmon that was the place to do it
AFTER ALL HOPE OF A CURE IS GONE WE GOING TO HAVE MORE INFECTED
Nature with the W

i think your original post touches on the reasoning a tad. the episode did kinda feel like it was written with a very very small side of caution that the show maybe would not be picked up for season 2. just that the ending felt like it COULD serve as a one season series finale need be.
does the season ending mean that we wont see ElChapo post ever again. Because if it does, dont bring season 2

I mean there’s a reason why they held on the doctor lmaooo

Yeah you put it well. I am not dying for action as well. I think episode 5 was too infected heavy and I think the finale was too human action heavy lol he could have snuck past people too to some degree make him look slightly less psychopath
.
Sam and Henry I loved the deaf change but didn't like the not able to defend himself or use a gun in anyway change because in game when they get split up with each other kids them defending each other kids is central to theme of game. Here bro just hiding under car waiting to die .
. Like Kathleen could have found them and he just wouldn't do anything? Him being a pacifist snitch for medicine that got her brother killed was too much set up for future .
Most of the changes though I did like. I think infected and human threat could have been spread out throughout the season. Not every time we see an infected or human threat do we have to see death. They can use stealth and sneak around people as we did in the game. They don't have to kill everything they come across.
We saw so many infected in 2 and 5 then poof. So yes Tess and Sam and Henry fates could have been changed but in Sam and henry situation they were kind of doomed either way

aight let me block you again have a good life

a week couldn't change much just to me how they did their action felt superhero like even if it was sad music itself

this is the ending of the game. Throughout the season they have hinted at plot of second game so I don't think there was really much doubt
