so you see the problem with the idea of an old dude and a 14 year old girl fighting off scores of armed raiders
I could see it dragging the story out maybe but the balance of brutal gore and conditions with heavy emotional drama was always what made the game special so adding a bit more stakes by seeing a bit more gunplay wouldn't hurt too much. We have a few more episodes that'll fill that gap but I wonder if the show will do it justice or swap it for something more tame

Game just wouldn’t end lmaooo
Changes are the best part of the show tbh. Its when it tries to replicate the game to a T that it falls flat for me.
I understand I can see that. That’s why I’m saying I don’t see adaptions as a replacement of what it’s adapting more like a multiverse how things went down in a different universe. This isn’t the same Joel & Ellie as game universe
I am confused on what is supposed to be "realistic" in this and I am not hating I am saying. They could be out there if they wanted to. When you get into wanting "realism" then people like that plankton fellow is like "why did the raiders only attack once". Like you get into that nitpicking realm because when you try to be overly realistic the logic of the games DOESNT HOLD UP AT ALL. Its okay its not realistic just because it is dark doesn't mean it should have to be realistic. To continue to focus on realism gets to the point in some ways where it doesn't feel like you want to be a video game adaptation or even get the same feels. You want just a realistic story

So you’re telling me the master chief didn’t actually f*** a covenant spy?

this is what I agree with its a different Joel and Ellie. Which is what I have been saying and that's okay. It will get people interested in the lore.

I did in game
All of y'all talking realism now when Neil cranks the violence up to 100 kills a season I want y'all to keep the same energy
The Last Of Us as a show has been a great show, not peak TV or whatever but it's a decent retelling of a classic video game story. The little changes Neil and Co have made seem to be 3 for 3 in making the story more palatable for TV.
I do agree that everything with Joel and Ellie feels a bit rushed, I would've liked to see more time with them but considering Ellie is more or less the main character and Joel dies in TLOU 2 , my bigger criticism would be the lack of real tension in the plot line overall.
Central to what made the game so f***ing great in the first place was the juxtaposition of all the violence amd brutal gore with the beauty and intimacy of the scenery and personal drama/realtionships unfolding; That doesn't exist much here and its really disappointing.
another well worded post
I get that and agree. I just question if this show differentiates itself from many stories we have already seen told in tv and film if it avoids the game things that made it different than many of those things
This I agree. I like how you said it probably was something new when it first came out but now a decade later we’ve seen similar storylines
I only played the first game last year didn’t realize how many fans it has till this show started. I knew it was popular but didn’t know fan base was this rabid

Even when Last of Us came out as a game. It was a new story to GAMING. But had been done many times in tv and film so 10 years later has been done even more. Fanbase very rabid. I mean once it got such high ratings and was seen as "one of the first video game to deliver a serious story" many tried to emulate it. When the truth is there were serious stories before and after the last of us to some degree. It was the first for many truly recognized because it was more cinematic and realistic.
we finally made it to true discussion
I personally think the show is amazing
I personally think the show is amazing
and I am respectful of that. I love that you love the show and will love future seasons.
I don't hate the show. I definitely don't think it breaks the video game adaptation "curse" if we are to believe there is one if it removes much of what made it game like in trade for realism. Same way if an anime or game or manga is adapted and it tries to make everything realistic I think that takes away from much of the story often.
That is just my take though. I am glad you enjoy it. As long as games are willing to be game like and don't all try to be the last of us I don't care either way
This is the 3rd time you linked me this
I am not watching mr greg

honestly…
I am playing the game for the first time
AND just watched the pilot episode
of the series and I also don’t think this show is as glowing as people are saying.
The game on the other hand is so f***ing addicting and awesome and fun and everything they ever said, but the show just feels a lil generic idk what it is
too bright, like wheres that DARK bleak vibe from TLOU game and Chernobyl
everything just seems too bright and TV showy & over produced idkk
