2023 and dudes are completely allergic to shows that don't have violence every 5 minutes
I don't think that is really it though. I think many here are saying other shows do drama and character progression better for them. Shows that at times have less or no violence so they are wondering what makes this show special
Just my guess though
That convo between Tommy and Joel where Joel opens up and admits his fears and talks about his dreams he been having
Only other videogame adaptation to make me feel this much for the characters was Arcane
Idk how y’all write paragraphs all day that took it all out of me I’m done articulating how I feel
I think they are presenting the actual drama and story of the show excellently and I think they are doing complete justice to the characters and the story.
Why?
I think Bella and Pedro are doing absolutely amazing as Joel and Ellie. They have their mannerisms down to a beat, and are acting their asses off.
The story for me, hits just as well in the show as it did in the game. They have taken characters and stories, expanded on them (well and even excellent matter of fact), and the few changes with the actual story (bill specifically) I thought have actually been BETTER than the games representation of bill.
For development of characters (I’m assuming you mean Ellie and Joel) I think they are progressing fine enough. There have been multiple skips now where we are supposed to fill in the gaps. They are finally feeling closer and bonding, telling jokes to eachother. And after 6 episodes together in a tv show format for me does not feel forced.
The action in this show is whatever and imo the worst part of the show but the haters eat that up whenever it comes up so whatever.
But overall as an Adaption, they are nailing the story, nailing the characters, nailing the theme, the relationships and if all for me.
This for me is the holy grail of video game adaptions and I’m so happy to see one done right
I agree with some of the statements here and I disagree with some of the statements here but I understand why this user feels this way

Nah should've been replaced by a scene where they threw a molotov cocktail at a group of zombies
You just yell at people for not agreeing with you

The Last Of Us as a show has been a great show, not peak TV or whatever but it's a decent retelling of a classic video game story. The little changes Neil and Co have made seem to be 3 for 3 in making the story more palatable for TV.
I do agree that everything with Joel and Ellie feels a bit rushed, I would've liked to see more time with them but considering Ellie is more or less the main character and Joel dies in TLOU 2 , my bigger criticism would be the lack of real tension in the plot line overall.
Central to what made the game so f***ing great in the first place was the juxtaposition of all the violence amd brutal gore with the beauty and intimacy of the scenery and personal drama/realtionships unfolding; That doesn't exist much here and its really disappointing.
How is complaining about the lack of violence and action unreasonable criticism?
Some of y'all act like this is an adaptation of Death Stranding.
