you trying to prove his point?
this
"nothing amazing" lmao maybe you dont realize how little rock and roll there was in '63 but literally only Roy Orbison was left of the 50's guys
meh
I prefer what I posted
i only really love a handful of songs by Stevie so id feel like a fraud even listing him (and ive done all his classics, just not for me)
Mayfield amazing but would kinda fall more under the softer motown type of soul stylings than fit into the lineage of hard ass funk gods (despite superfly)
i get that, i thought you meant r&b in general.
i love Stevie so listen to him all the time, but i think his legacy makes him rank pretty highly personal taste aside.
tbh i was thinking of covers not just in that era but from artist who were popular then across their career. like the rolling stones love in vain cover isn't till towards the end of the 60s... and stevie marriot and rod both had classic covers in the 70s and 60s, solo, faces and humble pie and the other projects they were both in too.
fight me
still working on my Humble Pie list
The answer is Michael Jackson by the way. There will never be another.
there's not been another beatles either. in fact their situation is probably more unmatched since the 60s then MJ's.
it's not discrediting Michael Jackson if it's true lol. sometimes as fans we put things on artists they probably wouldn't even think about themselves.
Well I was thinking, y'know, how this thread has been posted before, and its pretty pointless now ,y'know, you just need to Let it Be, but if I was to answer again it would be The Beatles but they're both great, y'know

oh yeah don't get me wrong i love the self-written Small Faces stuff.
Tin Soldier is crazy.
i think whatcha gonna do about it is a classic cover tbh

well he is a MJ stan lol
neither are the goat but the beatles were better songwriters & musicians in general. Michael had a better voice tho & he looked iconic
Please stop comparing GOATs with that mid group full of whole milk lookin asses
well he is a MJ stan lol
true but i can think of major flaws in most of my favourite artists. nobody's perfect lol, they're all humans at the end of the day
idk why i find it hilarious watching the janet avi get involved in these conversations in a nuanced way lmao
Why are people so desperate to discredit Michael Jackson?
none of us are "desperate to discredit MJ"
we are looking at it from all sides. I like MJ more, but to put him beside the Beatles? They're equal.
The Beatles focused on the musical aspect while MJ focused on performance
Ad again, they are two different eras and two different genres

All Or Nothing and Im Only Dreaming
my absolute faves and rank way up there in my all time list
Rods cover of Reason To Believe too
when you take into account all of Lane/Jones/McLagen's work they definitely need to get brought up every time someone discusses best brit bands of the 60s and 70s. Keith knew they were hot on their heels to the point of scooping up Ron asap.
the only edge id give to the beatles is bc george clinton was inspired by them but with that being said funkadelic is better than both of them

I'm just looking at it from all sides. It's not really a fair conversation to begin with since no one here truly experienced the Beatles.
I say it's equal lol. MJ stans always go "well the Beatles released more music and more consistently etc". But even when we include J5 they managed to outchart MJ in what 1/4 the time??? That's absolutely crazy.
They were two different acts with different strengths and weaknesses

i saw Paul live about 7 years ago and it was still pretty blatantly a Beatle in your face
did not expect him to tear ass like he did but damn
never saw MJ
but i have seen James Brown and Prince and Smokey
its not a cover?

i always thought it was like a double cover. cos it's essentially just that soloman burke song, and then i thought they brought in producers to write the lyrics for them.
i could be wrong tho
and yeah i agree, they're definitely up there for that era. ronnie is perfect for the stones, although i love mick taylor's studio work a lot

yeah and i bet the chart history on all the motown and other genre covers of beatles material is crazy stats too

brian was goat for his instrumental variety, mick for his scorching solos. ron gets credit for keeping keith alive i guess.
thoughts on peter green?

i love peter green, was sad to see him pass away
i love music from fleetwood mac across eras. they can be a bit cheesy, but they write great songs. he had some good moments outside of the band too
wbu?

I had Neil Young, Jeff Beck and Jack White as my personal top 3 guitarists for eons untill I discovered Peter era Fleetwood a couple years ago
had to make it a top 4
Then Play On so f***ing immaculate. Finally listened to my End Of The Game cd i had sitting around for like a year the day he passed away
