I'm seeing people complain that Galactus's motivation for wanting Franklin would be unclear to non-comic readers.
I'm a casual comic book fan, but don't know much about the F4. It wasn't clear to me what exactly Galactus would do with Franklin, but I didn't think it mattered. I think it works because the F4 don't know what he's going to do either. So both the characters and the audience are forced to speculate what would happen to the baby if Galactus got him.
That said, can one of you tell me what he actually wanted?
In the comics, Franklin has the power to create universes. It’s implied that this will be his power in the films as well, when Galactus says he has the power to satisfy his endless hunger. That’s also why when Franklin revives Sue, her eyes fill with a glow that looks to be stars in space. When she comes to, she tells Reed that Franklin is more powerful than all of them combined, implying that she saw the universes he’s capable of creating while he was reviving her.
In the Secret Wars 2015 comic, the basic premise is that the multiverse is collapsing due to separate universes colliding with each other, and Doom uses the power of Molecule Man to create a new reality called Battleworld which will save the multiverse and he will be the ruler over. It seems that in the MCU, Franklin Richards will be taking the role of Molecule Man, and that’s why we see Doom talking to him in the post-credits scene of this movie.
Johnny never hesitated to go at Galactus
I thought this was great.
Really really loved all of the space and cosmic stuff. This is the first time the MCU has fully leaned in to cosmic s***.
The Galactus intro scene is legitimately one of my favorite MCU scenes of all time.
Also I personally like that we are getting superhero films that aren’t spending time showing us origin stories. At this point I’d much rather get thrown right in to these worlds instead of spending time showing us their origin stories (again).
Sometimes a comic book movie should make you feel like you are walking in a comic book store and reading a random issue on the shelf
I like that Johnny wasnt dumb in this but the completely decipher alien language in less than a month based off one sentence was a bit much
Any theories on what happened here?

Any theories on what happened here?

What do you mean? Isn't this when he identified Franklin inside of Sue?

He induced labor
What do you mean? Isn't this when he identified Franklin inside of Sue?
He identified Franklin inside of her from the ship when the scan zoned in on her stomach
He did something here to make her immediately go into labor
He induced labor
I thought he might’ve used cosmic abilities to speed up time inside of her body or something like how the time stone can shift time of individual objects

He used his cosmic power to induce labor so he could have Franklin now rather than later. i don't think he manipulated time or anything it was just a slightly premature birth

I think I got lost on timeframe cause I thought she was still early into her pregnancy but she was showing at that point so it had to have been months since announcing

they did a quick skip to the point she started to show, and by the time they had to go to space news were pondering over the gender of the kid and acting like it was imminent.
I was thinking mid-screening they coulda done a better job at that. I didn't even think she was that far along until he induced it

This video helped me place the timeline of the movie

It's probably the only part of the movie that I had to really think about there lmao

Yeah I agree with that I think a clearer picture of how much time was passing may have helped a bit with pacing issues. They did it real subtly like now that I’m thinking about it Halloween passed before they left for space

I appreciate this I’m about to peep

They did everything they could here imo. Galactus wasn't gonna sit there and spell things out and Reed didn't even know Franklin had irregularities in the first place. Galactus had been eating worlds for billions of years, is tired, and sees Franklin as his way out
Franklin's powers are something you have to grow with him to learn the extent of. @fader explained it well, but because Franklin is a newborn, Galactus sees the opportunity to rase and train Franklin to serve him. He can create specific universes for Galactus to eat rather than being on an endless hunt to destroy planets for the rest of history. Franklin ultimately is more of his equal (or better) tho

Sidenote to this, think her eyes glowed the same/similarly to when Ego unlocked Quill's celestial heritage

I think it's more than just feeding him tho, I think he implied he would become his herald/take over the mantle, which has comic precedence too

Yeah he clearly said “so I can finally rest”
Which is what I did because 80% of this movie was just superhero Shameless

Yeah i was tripping myself up on explaining one part correctly and forgot to mention he said that too. I think this is where it gets too much to explain smoothly tho which is why the movie avoided saying too much.
The whole universe would have to die first for Galactus to rest then hand the mantle to Franklin to lead the next one in his place
These may seem like nitpicks but these were the biggest things that didn’t quite land for me:
Shalla-Bal sending Galactus back through the portal. Once we got the scene of her and Johnny where it’s revealed that she joined Galactus in order to save her home planet, a redemption of some sort seemed sensible, but it feels like we jumped from point A to C or even D. There just wasn’t enough rapport with the character for me to feel anything substantial when she makes that sacrifice at the end. Needed just a little bit more.
I’m paraphrasing the quote but when Sue comes back to life and says (of Franklin) “he’s not us, he’s more.” The most awkward and clunky line in the script. It undercut the moment, and I don’t think it was delivered particularly well. Sue is dead, Reed places Franklin on Sue, Sue comes back to life. We’re all capable of putting that 2+2 together, just leave it there.
Unfortunate that these two things happen at the end but oh well. Still thought it was great overall.
