Elden ring had fanfare because it was a single player game with George R R Martin writing, of course it was more hyped. And again, you're assuming s*** based on nothing but vibes. Game definitely has artistic cohesion, goth/steampunk inspired with vampires and werewolves, both creatures connected to night, the moon and blood. Bloodborne was gothic, 1800s london inspired with lovecraft creatures ffs, and that too ended up being very cohesive in the end.
Bayonetta 2 is widely considered one of the best action games of all time btw, on par with dmc 3 in terms of impact and quality so idk what you're talking about there, and has no censoring or suppressed artistic vision. Funnily enough, only Nintendo was willing to fund that game. I think the same happened here, miyazaki had a crazy idea but needed someone to fund it and Nintendo was the most willing to help him.
And mgs5 is like top 2 kojima games in terms of gameplay, fantastic and highly replayable game. He definitely deserves trust, unlike cdpr which had in their resume only one great game before cyberpunk.

To end this discussion, if you think this project isnt important to them, then i don't want to hear your opinion on ds3. Miyazaki was basically forced to go back to that series after what 2 did, this clearly came from his desire to make a multiplayer game and a bloodborne spiritual successor in his own way

Nintendo was willing to fund Bayonetta because they need to desperately expand their base of players with newer and more diverse titles (Hence Duskblood).

DMC5 released on all platforms because Capcom made a game that looked like this

Miyazaki did not need Nintendo to fund an idea for him bro. FromSoftware has probably made ridiculous bank off DS1, DSR, DeSR, DS2 + DLC, DS3 + DLC, AC6, ER, Sekiro, ER SoTE, and BB ToH. He's president of a company that makes best selling games on multiple platforms.

You're making it seem like they haven't been busting out commercially successful games after Dark Souls Prepare to Die lmao. They had people buying it on PC when the game didn't even work without a mod.

Meanwhile Bayonetta is a barely successful game by SEGA, who routinely eats losses pushing out dogshit Sonic games yearly, and gets scammed by Gearbox on games like Alien's Colonial Marines.

MGS5 has great gameplay it doesn't change the fact that Kojima did not finish the game. It's still definitely unfinished. CDPR had three great computer RPGs via the Witcher series prior to W3. It's the entire reason W3 was popular in the first place.

DS2 didn't do anything to the series lmao. DS2 has a bad reputation but it's not some CP2077 tier flop. It was just a disappointment in regards to level design, story, and graphics (Moreso then art design) in the base game. However, it also introduced powerstancing, improved magic, had better PVP than DS1, and had one of the best DLC bundles of the genre with the King trilogy.

Not to mention, the development of these games overlap at times. I'm pretty sure he was working on BB while DS2 was dropping and he took over DS3 so he could finish the series prior to becoming President.

But all this gossip aside, if the game comes out and it's good. Cool, but it looks like ass and detracts from the usual spectacle of FromSoftware entries.

Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3 are amongst some of the most successful single player games of the last 10 years lol while Sekiro and the newest Armored Core is also pretty high up there - it isnt just because of George, and also fromsoftware is amongst the highest earning 3rd party single player studios too with every game since Bloodborne to ER doing way over their projections and far out-earning the cost - they are not hurting for money at all and been funding things beyond just fine.

This title is to just work with nintendo and their closed ecosystem, which probably is in part to do with how bad ports of their modern titles would perform on the hardware on a technical level (and fromsoft also has a relationship with nintendo back when they did a few exclusives for them in the GameCube days). Just like the Monster Hunter team did with Rise instead of porting World or Wilds (which is also one of the most successful single player series of the modern era). Or almost any other developer that decides to do a 3rd party title for nintendo since the og Wii lol. If you want a good game on nintendo systems and to give to their audience then you pretty much have to develop it for just nintendo and its weird underpowered quirky hardware as if youre 1st party, this isnt new.

But regardless, action games have not been doing great on the switch, at all:

    • No More Heroes 3 was an entire disaster from its development to the terrible f***ed up graphics to the released product to the technical mess it is everywhere such as performance etc. and to the soured relationship with nintendo that probably killed the series

    • Bayonetta 3 was a big disappointment that was held back literally by major hardware performance and rendering issues that is one of the biggest letdowns from a major n hyped switch release that might have killed the series, which also led to way below expected sales even tho its still a decent to good game overall

    • Dark Souls 1 remastered switch port cant go above 30fps

    • Witcher 3 port is a mess and its graphics are ugly as hell

    • Monster Hunter Rise although successful was a disappointment to the overall Monster Hunter community that was also held back by hardware restrictions n quirks in its scope, which also had some slight rendering and framerate issues that was then fixed when it got ported to the other consoles n PC 2 years later

    • Astral Chain is a good to great game overall but didnt do well sales wise and lacked in cinematic presentation and voice acting while being handicapped by the hardware

    • Ninja Gaiden collection has major framerate issues that are unique to just its switch port

    • Neo the World Ends With You didnt do well that flopped badly and also was handicapped by the hardware - although its still a good game

    • Daemon x Machina is a mediocre to ok game that is also hammered by technical switch issues

    • And this one im not sure on since i dont like most of the series outside of the og Xeno and X so i havent played or kept up with it like that, but iirc, the Xenoblade series also has its ups and downs on switch depending on the title

    This is NOT good lol.

The Switch 2 will obviously be an improvement but how much is yet to be seen, and i do think fromsoft will do a good job even if it has to be taken down in scope compared to the norm, but lets not pretend and cap on the performance n success of the switch 1 in regard to major action games and action rpgs. Also, lets not lie on fromsoft's success which has been doing amazing since BB and ESPECIALLY since DS3.

This and Nightreign at the same time is a lil egregious

    how?

nightreign is a multiplayer focused side game, it doesnt matter in this regard, and Duskbloods is coming out next year anyways while nightreign is this year

armored core also came out directly a year after elden ring

  • Apr 2, 2025

almost every single in-depth full on action game on switch would have done better not only in performance but also sales anywhere else

the switch audience does not care about action games and the switch 1 hardware cannot handle them

hopefully its a different story with switch 2 - looking forward to this potential

Upon further review this isn’t even bloodborne affiliated by legal distinction due to Sony owning the IP?

    Awww man bloodborne world goated

  • Apr 2, 2025

The Duskbloods was my favourite announcement in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. The Bloodborne influence was heavy in the trailer.

The ghost of Bloodborne that Sony had buried in the depths of hell finally managed to escape and found its way back to From Software and daddy Miyazaki and begged for a new host after years of being suppressed by Sony. Nintendo welcomed the ghost and promised to take care of it and keep it from the hands of other companies by making it a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.

Even if it isn't a straight up Bloodborne single player sequel, everything about it just pays respects to Bloodborne in ways that just makes me glad to see it getting at least some of the respect it deserves. Watching the trailer it's like the ghost of Bloodborne saying "My body is in shackles, but my spirit is still alive".

shut up it’s basically gonna be like if yharnam had other hunters in your world that could kill you, that’s sounds pretty cool tbh. I like it a lot better than the more roguelike 3 nights thing that neightreign has

I was writing a reply but i think we're going way offtopic lol, i'll just say, miyazaki isnt a slave forced to make this game for Nintendo, if he chose to do it there's good reason, especially because this collab was unthinkable before the direct. Im sure elden ring is releasing early on switch 2 to accomodate players to from games. Just because there's not a cool cinematic as the first trailer doesnt mean miyazaki doesnt care about HIS OWN game, thats it
