i remember reading about their history a long time ago, a lot of their users came from older hip-hop related message boards that shut down such as SOHH but surprisingly some of the more niche ones like siccness and dubcnn are still up, just no one rly posts on them anymore

the reasons for embeds = concerns about performance on some devices etc if there’s a lot. and also they’re used by meta/bytedance to track you - which is why YouTube is just an image until you tap it
but tbf I guess they could just work like YouTube embeds - maybe w/ a setting to show full embeds by default ?

they might have been a bit old fashioned but it was a great plug for all those advance albums from 90s/00s artists
those were just releases by scene groups that got mirrored and passed around the internet
advance album leaks used to be really common when CDs were getting pressed months before release especially in the 90s and early 00s but no one really knew about them unless you were tapped in with IRC servers and s*** like that, stuff that was out of the average person's technical know-how
