man the high points on that song is really HIGH. peak rock honestly. & what do you think a concept project from them would even sound like?
that's an interesting question, well i think you could argue that Sgt.Pepper is kind of like a concept album the whole thing sounds very cohesive with the orchestra and s*** so most of the time if i want to listen to a track on there i end up playing the whole joint.
Maybe not an apple music quote to sum up the goats
It’s not a bad quote tbh, what more can ppl in present day really say abt em?
Definitely. If Not For You is one of my favorite songs and it just sounds gorgeous here
The Bob Dylan alternate version on Another Self Portrait is crazy
Can't believe he never released it
If Not For You is elite and probably wouldn't crack the top 40 dylan tracks, but i'm aware that is a very high ceiling.
it definitely wouldn't but bob should have released this version

Idk allow younger generations to experience the cliches before you throw in the towel and have a summary mainly about how they're impossible to summarize. Which they aren't.

It’s not that it’s impossible, it’s that it’s eminently possible and so has been done countless times very competently covering themes and ideas it would be hard not to retread when doing justice to a characterization of the Beatles
With that being said I admit I was wrong in saying there’s nothing more to be said in the present day — younger ppl can (and do) certainly review and recontextualize them from their unique perspective
But for the purposes of a brief summary, I think the apple music quote is intellectually honest to highlight how they are not just great musicians but arguably the most discussed and dissected musicians ever, and thus that the ground already covered is itself a massive collective work of criticism that modern day interlocutors must contend with as surely as with the music itself

yeah i would like to call Sgt. Pepper's a concept album, but the boys themselves have even dismissed it as being a true concept album numerous times themselves. but i guess it can be considered one, just loosely. & it is the closest we've got to getting one from them.
Help! - Rubber Soul - Revolver - Sgt. Pepper's-Magical Mystery Tour- The White Album-Abbey Road is an untouchable run. that's 7 classics in a 4 year span.
their creative output is gonna remain unmatched for a long long long time.

So many people s*** on the Beatles in '67 and '69
and they were barely holding onto their throne even in '65-'66 let's not get too worshipful
Damn shame they never got a chance to make their Exile or Blood On The Tracks or Some Girls
Bob Dylan
Kinks
Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd's greatest run is from Dark Side through The Wall. which is an incredible run, still not touching the lads though. 7 classics in 4 years > 4 classics in 6 years. & neither Dylan nor The Kinks have had a run of great consecutive albums that's comparable.

I love the passion behind these takes tho. Whether you like Kinks , zombies, Beatles or whatever it's all goat s***.

Yardbirds, Byrds, Dylan
such a packed era

I notice you only mentioned 1/3 of the artists I mentioned. Probably cause they’re the easiest to talk about in such a grandstanding fashion? The albums Dylan made from back home to John Wesley are “incomparable”? Kinks from Face to Face to Lola? You just blindly repeating what critics have said at this point

this is the biggest point! at the end of the day it's all art, great art at that! but nothing wrong with a little debating and sharing of opinions.

the Dylan run you mentioned was 4 in 2 years which i gotta admit is pretty insane especially considering Blonde on Blonde and Highway 61 sit right in the middle so I'll admit that's up there. and The Kinks run was 5 albums in 4 years and Village Green is a personal fav and i enjoy the others too, so that also is a great creative run as well. I appreciate your insight bruv! I still believe neither one comes close to The Beatles run from Help!-Abbey Road (65'-69'). maybe Dylan's and PF and a few others that neither one of us have mentioned.

that's what I'm saying. mans tried to mention The Kinks and Bob Dylan, like their all cool and all but for this a Beatles thread and even then their output just doesn't match the highs these blokes touched

Beatles are one of my all time favourites but for the sake of friendly debate I gotta say Dylans highs from the 60s s***s all over the Beatles
bask in the Basement Tapes for a while and you'll understand how hollow Sgt Pepper and Mystery Tour are in comparison that year
The purity of that music will outlast the flashy production in the long run. George Martin was doing them few favors that year.. and that's coming from the biggest psych stan you've met.
